Dionne Lyrics Question [["After You")

Played this song in rotation today and I have always considered it one of the top two or three songs on that album and probably one of her all-time greats. But a question came to my mind:

In the opening line, she says "sometimes I tell myself I'm leaving." But the rest of the song is all about how devastated she would be if he ever left her. So if he is that great then why would she say that she thinks about leaving? Any thoughts on that?

I think the lyrics are pretty clear. It's obvious she's obsesed with this guy and couldn't think of life without him or anyone else. She never says he's bad, but she does imply that she's obsessed or more in love with him than he probably is with her.
