Ross - Here's a curious one for ya. Saw this version performed by Debby with her sisters on back-up on TV [[I think it was The Dean Martin Show). It really caught me off-guard. Very surprising. Seems to have a religious bent to it here. A definite curiosity piece.

Wow, I didn't know about all the other different cover versions. Did any other Motown artist cover the song in the 60's?

When the Lovelight Starts was their biggest hit up
'til Where Did Our Love Go. The B side was big on R&B radio too.

Does the record company in this motown be entitled to any residuals from the tv show allowing these artist to sing a known single in the top 40, and would any of these residuals be showered on the Supremes or the writers HDH.???

Interesting thread. I had no idea that this song was covered so much. I only managed to check out the first few. Some are not bad at all. The Dusty cover was absolutely terrible.

The tone's all wrong. It sounds better on vinyl.

I just learned that this singer, Del Juliana died last week! August 28, 2012. She was from Austraila. RIP Del.

Only the songwriters of a covered song receive a royalty, not the performer if they didn’t have a hand in writing the song or an ownership stake in the publishing rights.

I love the Dusty version! It's one of my favorites, actually.
I also love the Debby Boone version.

Well according to Berry's former accountant I met just over a week ago, Motown's records were far more popular than many people realized [[including the artists.......)!

The Boone Sisters recorded for Motown, which I always thought the remake of When The
Lovelight was done. I remember it on radio before Debby hit with You Light Up My Life.
The sisters also did an awful version of Please Mr. Postman while signed to Motown.
