Hello there, Folks! I thought I would take the opportunity tonight, on "Nightflight", to pay tribute to lyricist Hal David, who passed away on Sept 1. He and Burt Bacharach [[Burt who over the years has gotten much more attention than Hal) and Hal with other collaborators have recorded some of the most memorable and wonderful pop songs of the 50s, 60's and 70s. Hal's lyrics were always intelligent, classy and catchy. So tonight, join me as I play lots of the songs of Hal David...always with some surprises....on "Nightflight"....on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 Fm Orleans and streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org/)
See you on the Radiola!
Thanks! John

Hal David is probably my all-time favorite lyricist and surely was one of the greatest lyricists of the 20th century. Thank you for giving him the showcase he deserves tonight. And thanks Cousin Brucie and Unka Tony for showing your support for this great artist.

Ya know, Jim: Baby, it's you.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's show, too. As I also am to another Listener's Choice show from you. And from Joseph, too. Not that Midnight Johnnikins needs any help. But that Philly-infused one was a real blast. Par-tay!

Hi John! Hal was one of the all time greats and happy to see your paying him tribute. It's made me dig out a lot of Dionne, Petula, Carpenters, even the Lost Horizon song the 5th Dimension released. You won't need to call Dionne's Psychic Friends to know I'll be listening tonight! ;)

See everyone then...

I was In The Land of Make Believe, Wishin' and Hopin' that the Trains And Boats and Planes that Alfie accidentally drove through The Windows of the World while in the Valley Of The Dolls would cause you to Reach Out For Me and remember that You'll Never Get To Heaven [[If You Break My Heart). Are You There [[With Another Girl)? Breaking all of the Promises, Promises you made. Even though This Guy's In Love With You, I think I'll Never Fall In Love Again because my House Is Not A Home. So just Walk On By. I Smiled Yesterday but now The Look Of Love is gone. So Who Is Gonna Love Me?

Yes, and "Valley of the Dolls" is by Andre and Dory Previn. My Dionne Warwick Anthology incorrectly listed it as by Bacharach/David. My bad and Rhino's bad. So Valley can't be part of the festivities either. But there is a ton of great, great songs that do qualify. I'm looking forward to hearing some Dusty Springfield, who along with Dionne are among the best interpreters of Bacharach and David.

I won't be playing this version of David/Bacharach's "Be Aware"
but I wanted to share Laura Nyro's amazing version...

What? No Shirelles? No BABY, IT'S YOU? Not even Adele's live version with Burt B. on piano? Oh well, I completely understand. And I respect your decision. Like totally. But no Shirelles? No BABY, IT'S YOU? That's OK. No problemo. None at all. What? No Shirelles?

Perhaps Johnny has "It's Love That Really Counts [[In the Long Run) by the Shirelles.
I'm hoping he has "Make It Easy On Yourself" by the Isley Brothers.

One less bell to answer.
One less Shirelles to play.
But I'm OK with it. I'm workin' through it. I've processed it completely. I'm fine.
What? No Shirelles?
Almost. Almost had it.

I agree with you, John. Burt B. has gotten so much more attention than Hal D. And, if you stop to think about it, Hal D. has gotten so much more attention than Mack D. I'm just sayin'.

Wasn't Mack Hal's brother? But not to be confused with Mac David. Anyway, it kinda fits. I read Mack tried to talk Hal out of becoming a songwriter.
