Before dance was identified as "disco", there has always been dance or danceable music, one form or another; whether people may twist, swim, monkey, bird, mashed potato, or dare I say, the "Shotgun", hahaha.
Soooo, had the Billboard Dance Charts started out, say, as early as 1960 or so, amidst Chubby Checkers' twist, limbo, pony, popeye, hucklebuck, name some ideal "Danceable" early Motown records easily qualifiable to be a number one for that chart.
I would assume, easily;
Contours' "Do You Love Me"
Miracles' "Mickey's Monkey"
Martha & the Vandellas' "Heatwave"
Martha & the Vandellas' "Quicksand"
Junior Walker & the All-Stars' "Shotgun"
Kim Weston's "Take Me In Your Arms [[Rock Me A Little While)"
Miracles' "Going To A Go-Go"
Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love"
And, probably would be still a slight to long shot, but can't help but dream ha!
Eddie Holland's "Leaving Here"
Miracles' " I Got to Dance To Keep From Crying"
Contours' "Can You Do It"
Marvelettes' "Too Many Fish In The Sea"
Contours' "First I Look At The Purse"
