Only Diana is on the cover and says the concert is only 30 minutes long with some extra's, coming in September. For what it's worth:

Mary Wells book is now also listed on amazon as upcoming.

I do not come here very often anymore, because I was sooo tired of the Ross/Wilson feuds, among other things.

I'm an historian and a journalist and that's why another line has been crossed for me here. And here it is, out of the blue, a Diaia Ross dvd, Paris 1968. Was Motown involved in this in any way?

I do not like the title of the dvd, AT ALL.
I simply do NOT approve of historical falsifications, period. There was NO solo Diana Ross in Paris in 1968. What are we gonna see on this dvd? The faces of Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong blurred, or what?
Why is this very succesfull singer and business woman so in denial of her roots... and apparently so focused on Taking Care of Business that she's prepared to try and falsify [[her own) musical history? C'mon, Miss Diana Ross, get a life and don't make those mistakes you made in the year 2000 all over again. Give credit where credit is due.
Me thinks this release is also a kick in the ass of Harry Weinger & his terrific team, who are so determined to give us all that fantastic product: the back catalogue of [[Diana Ross and) the Supremes and MORE.

And yes, I am very angry about this and I won't take one word back. I will no longer spare anyone who tries to change musical history for a few lousy dollars.

More than likely, neither Motown or Diana are involved with this dvd. This dvd might be no better than those Hudson Street dvds where they bought a vhs and copied it.

I agree - there is no indication Diana has anything to with this DVD. This performance has been available via bootlegs for years and I'd like to hope this DVD will be a cleaned up and remastered version...but I'm not holding my breath.

The upside - There will be a "new" Supremes DVD on the market. The down side- that they wasted such a fabulous cover on something that is not what it appears to be.

This set should be interesting. It says it is in color. All of the footage of have from that tour is in black and white.

FAIL!

I wouldn't have minded the Diana solo cover IF IT HAD BEEN FROM THE RIGHT ERA.

Ugh - just took a look at the cover. Looks like it was photoshopped by a 5 year old. She deserves better than that.

No we deserve better than this as consumers. Aren't there any concert footage from years other than 1968's European Tour? It's the same show everyone has seen over and over.

If there is, it's in the Motown vaults. During Diana's tour of the US two years ago she performed "Reflections" and showed a video/picture montage of the Supremes. Toward the end of the song, there was color footage of Diana, Mary and Florence in those blue sequin halter gowns performing onstage. It had appeared to have been filmed on the side of the stage but with a great angle of the three ladies. My guess is that it could have been from the "Supremes In The Orient" special, but I don't remember seeing that particular footage of the girls in those blue gowns in the special.

We do know the Farewell performance was filmed. Someone just posted a clip of the Brown Sugar documentary and you can see footage of the ladies receiving their gifts and flowers with Jean, but it also shows footage of Diana singing in the audience which leads me to believe the entire performance was filmed. Of course that's in the Motown vaults as well.

I do remember there was a clip on youtube several years ago from an Italian show which showed Diana, Mary and Cindy lip-syncing to "L'Amore Verra." It may have been filmed during their '68 European tour. They did stop in Milan when they were there so that's probably where the footage was from.

The clip you described that Diane showed sounds like The Christmas Show at the Fox in Detroit , 1964. I've seen it before.

I have also seen the filmed Farewell Concert from Las Vegas. Someone showed me the entire concert. So yes the entire show was filmed, recorded and photographed. I have also seen Mary Wilson's entire solo debut concert from New York on tape.

The 1968 European tour included everywhere from Sweden/Norway to Spain and Italy. The b/w clips on Youtube of them performing on Spanish television [[the one everyone thought was a rehearsal because they wore street clothes), was from that tour although the actual show was filmed in Portugal and it was not a rehearsal. That's how they appeared on Spanish television, in street clothes.

Don't feel let down if you find that they "colorized" the black and white film as they did the photo on the cover of the DVD! LOL!

While it might be exciting to have something unavailable before and rarely seen, this sounds shoddy.

It smacks of some rip off where there will be no royalties paid.

It doesn't do much for the position of any Supreme other than Diana. Think about how Mary Wilson feels about this.

Sorry to tell you this, Rob.. but even if they DID pay royalties on this, both of those broads lose more money in the cracks of their car seats than this would be worth. And if it's colorized... GOOD, as long as it;'s done right. Colorization has come a LONG way in the last 20 years. Such as this:

The Sullivan clip that was colorized was done so quite some time ago before the modern CGI colorization techniques. So if it is colorized, maybe it will be well done. Of course, it could just be filmed in color, and all we saw previously was a black and white print! I've known many shows to be that way, I had only seen them in black and white, only to have them surface in color later on.

I agree.

It's still a far bigger blow to Mary than all the bad that ever got said on SD. It would piss me off a lot.

I don't think it was that performance. Judging by the wigs and gowns in the clip she showed looked like it was from late 1966-early 1967.

I think a clip similar to the one you are talking about was also shown in the UNSUNG episode on Florence. I could never figure out where it came from.

That clip is from a local Philadelphia show, The Hy Lit Show, from March 1967 [[the week "The Happening" was released) when the girls were appearing at the Latin Casino night club. They also filmed an interview with them in the dressing room sitting in front of a long make-up mirror. The Supremes were at the height of their 67 glamour ala the "I've Got a Secret" clip filmed in May when they were at the Copacabana. There are shots of Flo in Peter Benjamin's book during "the Latin" gig with her boyfriend in the Rickshaw Inn Hotel where they stayed. She's wearing the same wig as in the clip. I saw them for the first time during that gig. They wore the 3-tiered purple chiffon gowns used in one of their final photo shoots. What a show! The next time I saw them in August of 67 Flo was gone and there was another woman who no one knew in her place :-) ...the infamous "The Supremes with Diana Ross" engagement.

That concert is fantastic and I watch in quite often. Although Florence will always be missed, Cindy Birdsong couldn't have been a better replacement. Her professionalism, grace, beauty and disposition were an EXCELLENT addition to the Supremes. People often comment that her sound wasn't unique. Quite often in a group setting, that is an asset as too many unique sounding voices don't necessarily make for great harmony. Cindy's voice blended beautifully with Diana and Mary as well as with the Bluebelles. We all love her!
