ACE/KENT has paid tribute to SOUL MAN Don Covay with a compilation that features some of his best written songs like Chain of Fools, Letter Full of Tears and Pony Time. . To me, Covay is another underappreciated, soul music legend.
Any appreciation for him on SDF?
It was also good to see ACE get an entire page promoting and selling some of its recent releases in COLLECTORS CHOICE catalog.

The first record I heard by Don Covay was "The Popeye-Waddle" on Cameo label. It
didn't become a big natiional hit, but did hit in Miami.

This is the first time I can remember anyone saying anything about Don Covay. I would love to hear more about him. It sounds to me that he is Unsung. I used to love the 'B' side to Mercy, Mercy called "Can't Stay Away"

It would have been nice if the Ace/Kent comp had included a few tracks by Don Covay like Seesaw and I Was Checking Out.... I also missed Gladys Knight's sublime version of Letter Full Of Tears. Don was once Little Richard's protege.

"It's Better To Have [[And Don't Need)" is a really cool 70s track.

It has an irresistable rhythm and it's pretty much individual and genre-free. Fabulous, never-repeated good time boogie!

If you can still get it, seek out the Covay tribute CD, "Back to the Streets", that Shanachie released a while back. It features folks like Bobby Womack, Ron Wood, Jim Carroll, Todd Rundgren, Chuck Jackson, Peter Wolf, Nona Hendryx and Barrence Whitfield all paying tribute to this great performer.

I don't have a lot of CD's but I have that one. I love Arlene Smith [[of the Chantels) version of "Letter Full Of Tears".
