in the same way that The Marvelettes were covered by the sands of time[[or buried in them by Motown), so too are the 70's Supremes, and especially Jean Terrell...once you get past a message board like this and worldwide hardcore fans, the average, casual Motown fan hasn't a clue..
UnSung luvs them some Motown, and while the Supremes name remains a potent brand, the 70's Supremes ,to the masses, never really existed..
TVOne, the ball is in your court...
and thanks so much for the immaculate Marvelettes saga, something many doubted would ever happen when we started talking about/nominating this subject a year or so ago..

It would be great to have the 70' Supremes, but I doubt it will happen because they were an extension of the 60's Supremes and very closely related even though Jean represented a new era for the group. I would like to see Kim Weston,, Brenda Holloway, and The Shirelles on the show.

Is there a list posted anywhere of all the artists who have been featured thus far on this series? I only joined in about a year or so ago [[I think Phyllis Hyman might have been my first) and therefore I wonder who I have missed that I might want to try and find.

Also have our beloved Velvelettes ever been featured and if not, would we like to see them? Although their story somewhat resembles the Marvelettes [[lost in the shuffle, kept in the background, etc.) I would still enjoy seeing them on TV. With all of them still alive to tell their story, why not feature them?

Bad idea and it should never happen. The Supremes are not "unsung". They were one of the biggest, most popular musical groups in history. Even after Jean Terrell joined. Regardless of how some try to seperate out the different eras of their history, they were still the Supremes! There are too many truly unsung artists that deserve some recognition.

I think the best way to document the Supremes [[AGAIN, geez!) is through a documentary or a film. They do not belong on a show like "Unsung". They don't the fit the concept. Just because it's been decades since the Supremes disbanded and they are no longer hot news in the entertainment World is not enough reason to classify them as unsung. As I recall, once Jean Terrell joined the group, the Supremes were everywhere from major television programs to major concert tours around the World. How about an episode on the Stairsteps or the Delfonics?

Oh and one on "Little" Willie John! His story is most compelling.

I'm not sure that I'd consider the 70's Supremes as "unsung", but Jean Terrell? Maybe. Who knows what she was promised back in 1969. She obviously could fill up a whole hour; her days with Ernie, her days with the Supremes, her solo album, her FLOs years.......

I question though: would she participate?

If anyone is "unsung" I think it's the Andantes. I guarantee, if you ask the average person who they were, they'd have no clue, but give them a list of songs they sang on.....

at the very least, Jean Terrell deserves an episode, from childhood to her current status.. she is the definition of UnSung in the year 2012... if the lead singer of the world famous Temptations gets an UnSung, so should Ms. Terrell!

I think Jean Terrell is a great choice - if Flo can be "Unsung", so can Jean. Sure, Jean was the lead singer but I've had several people tell me they didn't know Diana ever left and that it was her singing "Up The Ladder...", "Stoned Love", etc. The differences is crystal clear to me but, to the average/casual person, apparently not so much...

A show on the Andantes would never work because they were never famous at all! TVOne is a business and even though it is a cable network, they have to try to achieve the highest ratings they can. Who is going watch a show about the who? Oh yeah Motown's session singers from the sixties. Uh uh, it would not work.

Yeah but there is a huge difference between David Ruffin and Jean Terrell. David Ruffin had a much longer solo career. The bio-pic about the Temptations was in heavy rotation on VH-1 for several years so that a much younger generation has also developed an interest in him and the Temptations. That would mean a higher viewer rate for TVOne's Unsung.

Jean would probably tell you to buy her DVD "Through the Eyes of a Supreme" if you want her story. It covered pretty much everything an episode of Unsung would.

Who ever told you that is stupid and why waste money trying to educate a handful of stupid people?

I guess Diane's solo career must not have made much of an impact on these people you mentioned.

Further more, Jean Terrell's story was not controversial. She pretty much did what she wanted and left the business on her own. Flo's story was extremely controversial and dramatic ending in her death.

I think 70s SUPREMES could work if you include all the ladies, it would remind the public how many terrific songs they did, what a great vocalist Jean was and how Mary shone in the end. They were a different band - thrice! Top vote though has to go to the ANDANTES, was there anyone ever more unsung? That book helped but a documentary would really bring their contribution to the general public. I love CHRIS CLARK [[could have been US Dusty Springfield) and there's a story there, if she would talk about her relationship with Berry. Off-Motown I would also watch BETTY DAVIS, FIRST CHOICE, GLORIA SCOTT, MADELINE BELL, YVONNE ELLIMAN. SUNDRAY TUCKER could be interesting too as she was in possibly more girl groups than anyone else: Bluebells, 3 Degrees, Marvelettes, FLOS, plus her own Northern Soul hits and later carreer resugence as Cindy Scott. But most of all I would like Unsung to be shown in the UK!

Realistically, I want to see Patrice Rushen, and Sylvia Robinson, overdue for them both, as well as Kashif, they already did Melba Moore and Evelyn Champagne King after all,and a possible maybe on Barbara Mason, Billy Stewart... but Motown-wise, hmmm...Junior Walker and the All-Stars, Jermaine Jackson, Thelma Houston, High Inergy, Syreeta Wright, The Boys...

The 70's Supremes are not a good choice for an unsung episode because to tell the 70's Supremes story you have to tell the 60's Supremes story and that would not work because the 60's Supremes were not unsung the 70's Supremes were an extension of the 60's Supremes. Jean Terrell would simply not agree to do a show on her career period she is a very private person, her story was already told on Through the eyes of a Supreme.

Right on Fran. No pun intended. Jean Terrell is not going to do an unsung. She would have to talk about everyone from Berry Gordy to Mary Wilson and most of the people she would have to talk about are NOT unsung, nor is she. Brenda & the Tabulations are unsung. The Cookies are unsung. The Ponderosa Twins are unsung. The Supremes with or without Jean Terrell are World famous.

No she won't. She will not talk about anything deep, below the surface. All kinds of people have "tried" to interview her over the years and unless they are going to pay her some really heavy dough, you'll get nada!

You contradict yourself. How can they do a show on Mary Wilson when she is most central to everything that has to do with the Supremes? How are they going to play down the fact that with the Supremes and as a solo she has appeared on every major television program in this country? Even her concerts warrant a New York Times reviews here in the 2000's! What are they going to have her do? Not mention that her autobiography was the greatest selling music related autobiography in history? That she's performed for the President in 2000 and for the Pope in 2001?

Bottomline is, you can't, with the exception of Florence Ballard, pull out individual members of "THE SUPREMES!" and try to present them as "unsung". It would be entirely bogus!

Mary Wilson has appeared in several of the Unsung episodes [[i.e. Tammi Terrell, Mary Wells, the Marvelettes, Florence Ballard), don't you think the producers would have gotten the "bright idea" to do a feature on Mary if she were truly unsung? Get outta Dodge! LOL!!!

I know Jim. It was Jobeterob as usual who brought up Mary Wilson as a potential subject for "Unsung" because he intentially overlooks her accomplishments and I believe, he just cannot accept Mary's successes. Really there is no such thing as the "70's Supremes" and especially when it comes to the general public! Not one record, album or performance introduction ever said "The 70's Supremes". That term is only familiar with a handful of people. If they went on national television with a show talking about how "The Supremes" never got their dues, it would be a farse! Nobody you listed had 12 or 13 number records and dozens of Top 40 Pop hits! None of those great artists ever mainstreamed it like Motown was able to do with the Supremes [[Hell they even had their own brand of white bread, wigs among other merchandise). Even in the 70's they were on network televison....A LOT! [[go to Youtube).

Although I enjoyed the episodes on The Spinners and the The O'Jays, I did not feel that they belonged on that show. They were some of most popular singing groups for decades and each are still performing. So I think this is a bad idea and that there are many other artists that would make better subjects.

A&E or PBS would work best for a documentary on the Supremes if we just have to have one.

...and to entertain and sometimes educate, so not quite that clear cut. Once a program starts to deviate from what made it successful initially, ratings drop and it gets cancelled! "Unsung" needs to continue to concentrate on the truly unsung if it is going to be around long into the future. Maybe they could do one on the Stylistics or Major Lance, but definitely not the Supremes. [[Jean Terrell notwithstanding, she was a Supreme). Then maybe they should just changed the show's premise to "where are they now?". They cannot convincingly do an unsung type show on Jean Terrell of the Supremes. I can hear the announcer now....."The Supremes were one of the greatest musical groups in American Pop Music History........but then Jean Terrell joined and they went completely downhill, so much so that they are now "Unsung"! You think Jean Terrell or Mary Wilson is going to allow that to happen? Then I got a store I can sell you called Walbaum's! LOL!

If Unsung is about selling stuff, still waiting for Sylvers hahaha...but yeah, coincidence or not, the Tammi Terrell episode, running almost simultaneously with the complete Tammi Terrell CD set?

But hey, I'd watch Major Lance, his "Um, Um, Um, Um,Um, Um" has to be an all-time breezy, happy feel-good soul song,"Monkey Time" just as pick-me-up too...

Hmmm....if there may be a 70s-Jean Terrell Supremes, I elect for Unsung to do 80s-Temptations, featuring the late, great Ali-Ollie Woodson, hahahaha! Some people I'm sure is familiar with "Treat Her Like a Lady Enough", and I'd say "Magic", "Lady Soul", "Do You Love Your Baby", up to early nineties "Hoops of Fire", is just as quality, just more contemporary, than the Tempts' hit parade of the sixties-seventies - yet, most people in general usually thinks the group primarily from "The Way You Do The Things You Do" to "Papa Was A Rolling Stone"...

Ali-Ollie Woodson was one of the greatest of all time!!!

Now if they are going to start separating group members out from groups and focusing just on segments of a groups' history, then I propose they do a show on the 1974 Supremes versus say the 1972 Supremes. Although the '72 Supremes had more hits, I kinda liked the '74 Supremes better and their story has never been told enough to my satisfaction. LOL!!! oh LOL!!!
