"In My Lonely Room" [[sounds fantastic!), "Do I Love You" [[the Ronettes' hit), etc.

Phil & his bunch took detailed notice of the early sound of Motown, not strange 'cause Bob Babbit, Eddie Willis, Ray Monette [[and who else...?) are involved in the project.
Note that there are special editions with no less than 26 tracks... and that Too Many Fish In The Sea and You Keep Me Hangin' On are limited available on DVD/CD.
And then the extra tracks like Ain't Too Proud To Beg and Ain't That Peculiar... can't wait till they appear on YouTube.
Good to hear Phil learned his Motown drum rolls perfectly, the Benny Benjamin ones as wel as the Uriel Jones ones!
And OMG... are those the original Vandellas doing BG on Jimmy Mack? If not, they're sound-alikes.

Top 10 potential? Something About You.
My least favorite track? Love Is Here And Now You're Gone.

The funniest thing though are the non-Motown songs Some Of Your Loving and Going Back. Where were the historians when those songs were chosen?
I also have my doubts about Do I Love You [[sounds like a Spector production) and Talking about My Baby... are these Motown songs? And: You've Been Cheatin’... where does that song come from?

This project goed way further than using Motown samples in modern street music. This is re-inventing the Motown sound.

Talkin' About My Baby was by the Impressions. I agree with you, Robert, this goes much further than just sampling
the Motown Sound, it has definitely revived it.

Some of your lov'n and Going Back are Carole King and Gerry Goffin numbers performed by Dusty Springfield. Interestingly Diana Ross did Going Back on Love and Life, the Very Best of Diana Ross. The lyrics are certainly meaningful for aging Baby Boomers.

Andy recently said he spent some time with Phil at Andy's office and that Phil loves Motown, the Supremes, Diana and You Can't Hurry Love and finished a recent show with You Can't Hurry Love which drove the crowd to a frenzy.

I can't quite imagine choosing to re-do Love Is Here. On the other hand, Sirius Radio plays it all the time. Does Phil does a bunch of spoken parts?

Robert........what is a penal crisis? Would Viagra help or is it about locking oneself up?

There was a special show on UK TV on Saturday night to showcase this release and Phil Collins' "Motown roots". It was quite interesting from a historical viewpoint, but I hated every song he sang. OK he had Bob Babbitt and some of the original musicians playing which was great, but it was still him singing! Motown was the "Sound Of Young America" not "Middle Aged Suburbia"! If I want to listen to 60's Motown songs I'll listen to the original versions, not Karaoke Collins!

And no, thank you, NO Viagra for me, I'm a natural beauty.

I have to agree Adrian. Haven't we had enough of albums like this. Michael McDonald's album wasn't that good either [[though I must say that his live concert on Blu-Ray was quite appealing). Why can't Phil get the Funk Brothers in the studio and record totally new material? I would find that far more interesting.

Phil is doing therse songs now that he doesn't really have to do anything. He always wanted to, and it's his right. I don't think he is the best part of any of the tracks. but he has done good by Motown in bringing the attention of the world back to its brilliance again - which is what I believe he wanted to achieve. Young whipersnappers blissing out to Motown at peak time on Staurday night on ITV is good for everyone, the way I see it. Teach the little bleeders what music is all about instead of that bloody bang-bang-bang all the time. Oh, I just realised, that's what my dad said about Motown.
