TRENTON — The state Senate today voted to extend its condolences to the family of legendary singer Whitney Houston.
Houston, who grew up in Newark, drowned in a hotel bathtub in February.
The resolution [[SCR97) passed 40-0.
Gov. Chris Christie faced some criticism for lowering the Statehouse flag to half-staff after her death because she had faced drug addiction problems.
While the cause of death was accidental drowning, an autopsy revealed cocaine marijuana, Xanax, Benadryl and Flexeril, a muscle relaxant, in her system.
Christie defended his decision, saying Houston's drug problems didn't negate the good she did.
