Like Timmyfunk, had you asked for 1978 albums, I could have rattled off several dozen favorites without a problem.

As for 1979, albums that come to mind that I liked and bought include but not limited to:

Minnie - Minnie Ripperton - [[ I bought it a week before she passed. "Memory Lane" is a forever favorite)
Off The Wall- Michael Jackson [[Mike had a special something going on with this album)
Mary Wilson- Mary Wilson [[ 'cause she's my girl! LOL!)
Do You Wanna Go Party - KC and the Sunshine Band
Disco Nights -GQ
Dionne - Dionne Warwick
McFadden & Whitehead - McFadden & Whitehead [[just for the anthem!!)
Winner Take All - Isley Bros
Wild & Peaceful - Teena Marie
Bustin' Out of L 7 - Rick James
Brenda Russell - Brenda Russell
Feets Don't Fail Me Now - Herbie Hancock
Uncle Jam Wants You -Funkadeliac [[How could you not have this album in '79?)

Interesting considering that 1965 was still a period where singles reigned.

Among kids, Tim. Singles reigned amongst the still new demographic of the "teenaged record buyer" in 65 but a lot of grown
folks bought a lot of great albums in the 60's, soul and otherwise. I know cause I spent a lot of time sitting on their living
room floors staring at and reading liner notes on the covers of albums by not just The Temptations but John Coltrane, Duke
Ellington and Rahaan Roland Kirk.
Anyway, you and Pshark basically covered my 79 albums in your first posts on this thread. Those were the best years for me
as a young man....

Well, the pop market, at least since the beginning of the sixties was a youth oriented market, wasn't it Splank? I know that the Temptations and maybe Aretha Franklin did well in the album market in the early and mid-sixties, but it seems that the Sly Stone and to a lesser extent Issac Hayes really opened up the album market to Black artists.

Though UJWY features the immortal "[[not just) Knee Deep", the absolute winner in the P-Funk album sweepstakes for that year was "Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy" by the Brides Of Funkenstein. If that title cut had been released as a Parliament single, it would have been a smash!

I forgot to list "Winner Takes All" by the Isley Brothers, but I could never listen to that album as it was released. I always thought it worked better as a single-length album. I created my own track sequence and created a single-length album with it. I used Audition to get the edits and gaps just right:

01 Winner Takes All
02 Let Me In Your Life
03 Life In The City
04 It's A Disco Night
05 Key To My Heart
06 You're Beside Me
07 Can't You See
08 Mind Over Matter

Obviously, a lot of cuts didn't make the cut, particularly the hit single "I Wanna Be With You".
