Since I do not own "Magnificent: The Complete Studio Duets" [[The Supremes) could anyone throw some info about the bonus tracks from disc 2? Recording dates for example or which sessions they come from, etc…

Thanks,
Gabriel.

Someone else may check the booklet but I think the details on the bonus tracks are rather sketchy as I recall. My recollection is that these tracks were "enough to fill another album" but I don't recall if the recording dates are given or not.

Thanks Kenneth, let's hope someone have the booklet to check it out!

Gabriel,

The unreleased recordings on Disc 2 were left over tracks from the last two albums with most being recorded during the sessions for Dynamite. Of the 11 tracks not used, "Hold On To Me," "Chain Reaction," "When I'm With You," and "Bring Back Your Love" were completed in early 1971 so they were most likley outtakes from Return of the Magnificent Seven. It's a great set. I love these albums. I think their voices blend so well and they sound like they're having so much fun in the studio, singing together "live" as it were. The vocals don't seem to have been embellished or "polished" too much and are more fun to listen to and more immediate as a result. On a few songs such as "You've Got What it Takes," some of the ad libs even sound spontaneous.

Wow that's more than I wanted! thanks Brad!
So does that means that Cindy and Mary are not featured in those tracks?

I think you mean on the previously unreleased tracks but as to the albums, Cindy and Mary are very prominent in many of the tracks, swapping lines here and there with the Tops. I think that's most notable on the track I'd mentioned earlier, "You've Got What it Takes," where they take turns with the verse.

Ok I see, thanks!
I'm sorry my english is not as good as I wanted it to be, so sometimes I cannot express myself very well, but anyway hope you can understand me.
Thanks again.
Lately I'm very into The 70s Supremes since I read Mary's book and purchased The Final Sessions.

Not at all...your English is fine.

Isn't the Final Sessions set great? I think you'd love the Magnificent set also. It's very listenable, and of course there's no different versions or mixes of any songs, so every track can be heard without bouncing around at all. I especially loved their first LP, "The Magnificent 7."

Sure it is! I love every track from the re-issue, it's first class disco with great ballads. I completelly fell in love with it.

Mary and Cindy are on all of the tracks [[both album cuts and unreleased recordings). Sometimes not all recording dates were kept track of like "Hold On to Me." Lots of LA and New York recordings were not written down so it's unknown about dates, what studio they were recorded at, etc. The Motown Hitsville Session Logs are thorough in information regarding sessions at Studio A and Studio B [[Golden World) where the majority of Motown recordings took place until 1972. Plus sometimes certain things were lumped together such as "Additional Overdubs." It could mean background vocals, instrumentation, lead vocals, etc.

I do not own the Set yet, I had the first two albums and at the time of release they were OK. At the time, like most, I was looking for the hits, and even Motown could not break out the albums. In time I became partial to the song Glad About It, as I am a huge Ashford and Simpson Fan, and Jean and Levi tore the song up! I am looking forward to obtaining especially for the unreleased tracks.

What I really like are the two remixes - especially that note Jean hits right at the end of 'You Gotta Have Love In Your Heart' - and we all thought only Susaye could sing that high! Oh how I wish Motown would have put Jean in the studio more - but then, I wouldn't have been able to see them as much as I did in back in her day...

What a great set it is and I never expected to see it happen. Jean and Levi = perfect combination. Get it while you can.

I forgot there are a few alternate versions of some of the singles. The wealth of material on this set is just great.

"Hold On" is an amazing track. I can't believe that it was never released. "You've Got to Have Love in Your Heart" finally sounds like it should have back in the day. A great remix! "River Deep Mountain High" has a whole new life in it's remix too. Just a great job. Jean Terrell and Levi Stubbs are two of the finest singers ever. I love how free and playful they sound throughout.

I'm amazed that When I'm With You was overlooked for some of the tracks that made it onto the Dynamite album. IMO this is one of the best songs the groups recorded together.
