The main BBC2 news prog [[Newsnight) ran a piece on Detroit in the week that was quite good.
It was presented by Paul Mason [[one of the BBC's top newsteam guys) and Paul is an old NS / Motown fan.
We saw him driving around Detroit [[showing areas in decline) but then he went to the General Motors factory and showed how it has been revived. Lots of interviews with guys there about how the 'recovery package' had saved the company. How it was now thriving & back in profit. He then moved onto Toledo, to do a similar report on the Chrysler Jeep factory there.
A pleasing piece that put a positive spin on Motown's [[the city not label) future.
A studio discussion followed in which a US economist stated that both companies should have been allowed to go bankrupt, how they would have been bought for $1 and 'saved' much more cheaply [[as usual with those on the US right, she was talkin out of her rear !!).
Bet Paul enjoyed his time in the area & took in some local music.
