But these artists certainly weren't "second tier" in performance, quality or talent. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw....and timing. But, if you're a true Motown fan like me, you hold these artists as deep in your heart as the artists that achieved more promotion and success. Back in the day [[1960s) I always sought the less familiar single releases by the 2nd and 3rd tier Motown artists. In fact, I recall ordering "C.O.D." from Sam's Record Store in Los Angeles by snail mail. I would send them a long list of several dozen little-known Motown artists and would simply inquire whether or not they had a more recent release than the last single I had collected.

Oh, those were the days :-)
