A crystal voice from the heavens above
A product of Gospel and Cissys love
We saw a glistening sphere on stage
Years before a battle with demons would wage
Clive's vision was a princess beyond reproach
But the real lady was funnier, tougher but needed him as coach
7 consectutive number ones in a row
On screen and in photos she seemed to glow
Then along came a bad boy named Bobby Brown
and a Bodyguard soundtrack that kept her crown
Booze and Drugs became habit as the 90s wore on
the girl of innocence singing "How Will I Know" had truly gone
A skeleton frame stormed out on Madison stage
But the roar the crowd gave her that night was on no editorial page
She gave Sawyer and Winfrey the interviews of their careers
while comedians sharpened their acts with cruel jeers
She didnt care what anyone thought
As the survival of her marriage was fought
She made Clive and Arista rich
while struggling to keep the prized voice on pitch
Bobbi Kristina was her prized jewel
While Bobby played up acting the fool
The Lord had given her that voice
But the Devil kept knocking with vices of choice
The final tour quickly turned sour
A Whitney concert was half empty within an hour
Like an ageing boxer the stage was her ring
Thru many a boo she continued to sing
Now she is gone, free from her hell
Photographed in a casket another newspaper to sell
What lesson do we learn from her glory and pain?
that most folks are fickle and out for their own gain
The real Whitney was a complex creature
to my generation a musical teacher
Much more than a Diva
She sang with a Rhaposdy fever
The legacy will rise thru the sorrow ashes
The name Whitney Houston will be remembered as time passes
Thank you for your voice
you are my lady of choice
Your Journey here may have been slippy
..But I will always salute you...Nippy.....
