I was listening to some Four Top tracks which made me go back to Tempts tracks [[when Theo was there ) which reminded me just how much I have always enjoyed....Theo "The Voice" Peoples

Quite a few singers over the years have been called “The Voice” and although I can't take anything away from the others, for me Theo Peoples will always own the title among contemporary singers.

I realize it may not be this way for everyone but Theo is one of those singers that no matter what he sings, he makes the hair on the nape of the back of my neck stand up [[yeah I stole it:p) and ironically, the first male singer I can honestly remember feeling that way about was Levi Stubbs. Two different voices but [[IMHO) unique and distinctive just the same.

Not sure how long I'll hang out at SDF but I must admit, being here again has brought back a lot of memories and in spite of what many may believe, mostly GREAT memories. I even dug up old post going back to 2005 which had be cracking up but anyhoo – the subject is Theo and when his name came up recently, I had to hear THAT VOICE.

… and just a side note, MacArthur Park will NEVER, EVER make my list of Tops song I love and whenever Levi would sing it I actually tuned out – not because of Levi, I simply DO NOT LIKE THAT SONG but damn sam, Theo made me pay attention when he would do it. [[still don't like it though) LOL

I'm working with the Mac and keep on herading those CD's [[are from my wife!... a fan of John Denver, Cat Stevens and a lot of many others 70's, 80's, 90's and present days music, specially spanish and catalonian artists as La Oreja de Van Gogh, Sopa de Cabra, Sergio Dalma,...)

Lots of tracks by Talk Talk, Modern Talking, Art Of Noise, The Cure, Culture Club,... I don't knows if some tracks touch my soul for the evocative power of music, remembering the 80's or because its intrinsically quality [[???)... another two tracks that "touch" my soul:

"Guilty" - Barbra Streisand & Robbin Gibb
"Tainted Love" - Soft Cell [[a "pop" cover of Maxine Brown's 60's soul tune)

'Tainted Love' - now, wasn't that Gloria Jones, not Maxine Brown? Very, very popular on the UK Northern Soul scene.

Whenever it is played, it is still a tradition for all the dancers in the whole place to loudly 'clap clap' in complete unison on the beat [[as featured more strongly on the later Soft Cell version), as follows...

"......I've got to [[dancers: Clap, clap) run away,
I've got to [[dancers: Clap, clap) get away.."


Marc Almond [[Soft Cell) still, of course, performs the song as part of his repertoire - particularly when touring as a guest vocalist with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra [[check them out, if not already familiar). Jools and the R&B Orchestra sell out their theatre and outdoor concerts, performing at full blast. The audiences have only to hear the intro to 'Tainted Love' to put their arms up in the air, in readiness for those 'clap clap' moments...:)

You're so right, Westgrandboulevard!... my bad memory, I'm getting old.
You have made me to check my domestically tapes from the 70's - 80's searching this track!... and remembering my favorite Gloria Jone's one, "Tin Can People"... I likes these kind of "rock - soul" tunes.

Some others 80's tracks I have been hearding:
- "Me paso el día bailando" - Alaska & Dynarama [[spanish group with Pedro Almodóvar's muse actress Alaska as lead singer)
- "Get Up Off Your Lazzy Bed" - Matt Bianco [[very jazzy!... I hated it when I worked at my student years as barman in a discotheque and played it every session.. and now i found it with "something")
- "Pop Muzik" - M [[another track overplayed on those disk years that I hated and now i heard with another ears...)

No, I don't played nothing. I only worked as barman. There were a group by three DJ's who worked exclusively as DJ's. Some times I comes to the DJ's booth before the session started and dig in the crates to see the vynils [[some funk and soul from that era, as "Mestizo" by Joe bataan or "Mixin' It Up" by The Trammps,... among tons of "brain-less" disco and pop-disco music). This was between 1981 and 1986, my latest teens - first twenties. Today I'm aged 54 years old! :-[[ ... A track I likes a lot, "Beyond" by Herb Alpert they used as the sintony at the end of the session. I likes it musically and also because signified the session ended [[ we were very tired after 6 or 7 hours of hard work, this was a macro-discotheque and the costumers were hound reds or sometimes more than a thousand!)

"True" by Spandau Ballet is one of the few UK pop tunes from this era jointly with some others by the same group [["Chant # 1", "Gold",...) and some by F.R. David, Boy George or Brian Ferry that I liked at the time and today also.

It's 24:00 h here in Spain and I keep on exploring those compilations in the computer. At this moments sounds [[another usual from these discotheque days!):

- "Let's Funk Tonight" - Blue Feather [[how I hated it and how I ear now with "sympathy"...!)
