Soul,
I understand your concern in this subject, and it continues to disappoint. Something I have learned from my advancing years is to not be overly surprised to be let down by someone that professes Christianity.

It just makes me angry that in this 21st century, ignorance and hatred still exists, and this is just another daily example of it. It happened last year too at another church, where some pastor refused to marry an interracial couple. Makes me wanna puke.

In Canada and the UK, there are so many interracial marriages..........this is almost a dead issue. My son is part of an interracial marriage; during the first decade of this century, in much of the world, that isn't an issue anymore.

Organized religion is often used as the basis to kill, to maim, to hurt. Organized religion in Canada protected pedophiles for 50 years.

And yet, it includes some very committed, very good and humble people............perhaps some amongst the members of this church.

jobetrob, interracial marriage on a big increase here in the U.S. too, but there are still a LOT of people of all races, religions, and ages who still disapprove of it, even if silently. How else could a congregation vote to ban it?

It's the same here soulster.........biggots all over still.

I do think Canada and much of Western Europe are much more tolerant than parts of the United States - The South in particular.

This congregation reversed the stand against interracial marriage, right??

They did, but the fact that they ever voted for the ban at all is disturbing enough. I think the only reason they reversed themselves is because they didn't expect worldwide media attention. A lot of these small-town types never think of the world, only themselves in their little enclave. I mean...it's the state of Kentucky, one of the most conservative, backward parts of the country!

Agreed.

I suspect in Canada that type of activity contravenes Human Rights Legislation that exists all over the country covering discrimination on the basis of race, age, gender etc.

Does that kind of legislation exist in states like Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama or no?

Well, for your reading enjoyment, particularly the part about the Separation of Church and State: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state_in_the_United_State s

Arrr & Bee............a lot of churches need way more people like you!

I looked at the page you referred to Soulster; frightening.........sounded to me like the nut from Texas thinks the USA is his private religious sect.

its religion thats caused more wars than almost anything else.religion is an invention by man to hijack faith.control of the congregation.do it their way or out you go,excommunication, rule by fear.a congregation pays the wages.you dont need it to have faith.
it goes back to the dawn of faith [[any faith, pick a faith)the one thing you [[imo)shouldnt do is become something else because of how or what is said.its not christian they aint christians.true christinity is a faith not a religion

I'm still a Christian but I find myself not liking preachers these days. Been in the church ALL of my life having backslid in my 20s & 30s. I must admit that I don't feel right when I miss too many Sundays but I'm always that person who questions them and its sometimes viewed as being a contrary spirit.

I ran into another christian nut who thinks Obama is the anti-christ. One of those people who study their bible all day. None of what she thinks is scripturally accurate, but that doesn't stop these nut-jobs. The churches in the U.S. are filled with these people, and that's why I haven't stepped foot in a church in years for anything but a funeral service. And now these people are trying to ram Christmas down my throat. They say "Merrry Christmas", I say "Happy Hanukkah", and they go ballistic. I guess more than a few of them are anti-Semite too.

Next time, tell them that Mary must have gone through a lot of pain having her hymen busted when she gave birth.

Your precious Smark.

I think you have a streak about as crazy as me and my youngest son. Nuts, but very funny.

The Christian nut probably wouldnt know what a hymen is. On the other hand, they might be very familiar with those parts.

I recall a story from a home inspector. He was inspecting the home of a devout Christian couple, their denomination we'll leave aside; lady wore dresses to her ankles though and a bonnet; very good people they were. The inspector reaches to push aside the door to the attic. And out falls some handcuffs, a whip, and some classic porn. Result: red faced lady and proud husband.

It's the hypocrisy that I hate. How can people claim to love the Lord, read the scripture, lecture to others on how we should live, then twist around, or not follow what they preach and claim to live by?

My best friend is an ordained minister. Thank God he is not like that, having seen it all and done it all. But, i'm not talking about pastors or denominations, i'm talking about the people, the rank and file.
