Howdy, Folks! I've had the pleasure of some great shows in the past month or so...with guests Andy Skurow and George Solomon...both of UMG and airing the "Supremes 50th Anniversary Singles Collection" AND "More Hits By The Supremes Expanded Edition". The past 2 weeks, I've been honored with having on the show Jerry Plunk of Holland Dozier Holland's GREAT Hot Wax group Flaming Ember.
Thanks to Jerry and Andy and George for sharing such wonderful times.

Tonight is no exception. Soulful Detroit Forum's OWN "sophisticated_soul" aka Joseph Monreal of San Diego will be doing his 20TH "Listener's Choice" show [[congratulations, Joseph!!!). Joseph always gives us songs that are not only fresh and rare, but that are diverse and memorable...from Motown and soul to pop and more, by some of the great artists from over the past 50 or so years.

So join Joseph...and me...for all this and more...tonight [[Joseph may even give us a call in from the West Coast to talk of his choices for tonight's show)...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org)

Thanks so much....and thank YOU, Joseph!!
John

Whoa Johnny, that is some esteemed company you’ve placed me in. Thank you my friend, but I don’t have Jerry’s voice and talent or George and Andy’s knowledge and charm. What I do have is a love of music, a rather large music collection [[amassed over the last 49 years) and a desire to share music with other likeminded souls. Nightflight’s Listener’s Choice Show has been an incredibly fun vehicle to do just that and I very much appreciate that you created that option for your listeners, and I strongly urge my fellow listener’s to do a show. It’s a bit scary and nerve wracking at times, but it is so much fun! And very rewarding, I have received many kind comments about my previous shows, for which I am very grateful and I hope that what I have put together for tonight will be as pleasing. Thank you all.

John, thanks for squeezing in my trifle of a show before your jammed packed December gets underway with two [[I know will be fabulous) Marvelettes shows celebrating the release of “Forever More”! We have all waited so long for this release and I know over the next two shows you will give the Marvelous Marvelettes the kind of tribute and retrospective they truly deserve.

Thank you my friend, I hope you can make it. Seems to me the last time you rushed home from school for a Nightflight program it was a Supremes show. Again, such esteemed company! LOL!! No, No Joe! LOL!!:p:cool:

Oh, Marianne. Thanks. The Shangs version is one of my all-time favorite recordings. That Marianne sure lived a lot of life.

I think she gives it a more world weary performance as befits a more experienced person. My friend Evan [[evmo on SDF) turned me on to this song. It is so easy to miss great tracks.

I love weary performances. Later Peggy Lee and Sinatra recordings often benefit from weariness.

As did Billie Holiday on "Lady In Satin" which I think is one of the best albums ever. Her voice isn't what it used to be but her nuance is incredible. I saw Sinatra about 15 or so years ago and he was the master of nuance. Way past his prime but totally excellent.

Sorry to get off topic, Joseph, but if you have Nurse Dixie singing My Funny Valentine, I'd love to hear it sometime. That is her last recording, right?

I do have Julie's "My Funny Valentine". Julie retired in 1969 but came out of retirement [[at the personal request of Burt Reynolds) in 1981 to record 'Valentine' for the soundtrack to Reynold's movie "Sharkey's Machine" after which she resumed her retirement and did not record again before she passed in 2000 at 74.
