Best wishes going out to legendary bassist Chuck Rainey who suffered a stroke over the weekend and is recovering in a Texas hospital. Chucks wife Susan confirmed the report in an e~mail sent out yesterday. Rainey who is 71 has performed with Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Steely Dan, King Curtis, etc has been an icon in the music world for his tremendous musical skills and his humanitarian approach to life. Hopefully a speedy recovery.

I love this man's music. Wishing him Godspeed in his recovery. Here he is taking a wonderful "student" to school.....utterly fascinating. His comment on James Jamerson is dead on point.....

He played on a few albums by The Rascals in the mid-to-late '60s. He played that looping bass line on "Rock Steady" by Aretha.
