As a number of members have been celebrating The Dells and The Dramatics recently, I thought we might all enjoy one of their joint recordings from their Cadet album "The Dells vs The Dramatics". Much of the album was written and produced by Tony Hestor and Don Davis produced the rest.3815

On the same album, "Playin' The Love Game" performed by The Dells is written by Marv Johnson and Don Davis...I assume this is Marv Johnson from Motown...

No offense intended. Mike but I think more than 1 or 2 people avoided this thread because they were confused by the title.
Dells fans who preferred them over the Dramatics, Dramatics fans who liked them more than The Dells, or even fans of both
who didn't want to hear any bashing of either group. That said, I never had this album in my hands though I wanted it so bad! I had a friend pick it up for me and she lost it and soon after I was on my way out of state. I'd forgotten about it til
I saw this thread and I've wondered for some time how it was recorded which is what I'll try to find out later today. I think
if I had ever seen Ron Banks, Marvin Jr, LJ Reynolds and Johnny Carter in the studio singing together I'd have messed my clothes!:)...Lawd, I miss Ron so much right now...

I've had this absolutely gem of an album since it's release in 1974 & is in pretty good nick considering the hammering it got that year. I've no quarms about the threads title either as I was strung out over both groups.

Hi splanky, ah, I see your point.....I was of course merely quoting the album title; I don't see the groups competing with each other and they both contribute equally to the album, they are both equally outstanding. I tend not to pit any artist against another, I enjoy them all. cheers Mike

I know you were quoting the album title, Mike and I also have noting against it, I'm just speculating how so many would overlook such a great subject. And, I'll add, trying to bump it at the same time...

I not only miss Ron, but also the Dells' members who have passed on...these are two of my favorite vocal groups!!

Best,

Have the Dells performed live since Johnny Carter's death? I've been looking round the internet and can't seem to find any indication that they've returned to the stage.

Thanks, paladin. Do you reckon we've seen the last of them as a live act? Obviously they ain't getting any younger, and I think Johnny's passing must have had a profound effect on the guys.

Soulwally after Johnny passed they were auditioning replacements for him but it didn't go well. They are getting up in age and health problems have seriously curtailed their performances. I am not one to say never but unfortunately this could be the end of them as we know them.:[[:[[:[[:[[:[[

The CD doesn't use the same artwork & adds "Stay In My Corner" as a bonus track...also for some unknown reason all the tracks are mixed up from the original running order...which is:

Side 1
1 Love Is Missing From Our Lives - Dells & Dramatics
2 I'm In Love - Dells & Dramatics
3 Choosing Up On You - Dramatics
4 Strung Out Over You - Dramatics

Side 2
1 Playin' The Love Game - Dells
2 Door To Your Heart - Dramatics
3 Don't Make Me No Promises - Dramatics
4 Tune Up - Dramatics
5 I Wish It Was Me You Loved - Dells
