I have a lot of respect for Cher [[a tremendous talent.) and was a big fan of the Jackson Five's music, but when I saw this back in the 70's I was like laughing at parts of it, hehehehehehe.....

....and then there was this memorable performance of Gladys Knight singing "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" with the "grapes" on the Muppet Show. I laughed hard when I first saw it, but I can see where it could have seriously creeped some kids out! LOL!!!

I remember that well , its like looking at a time capsule, I was impressed with Cher's choreography, she was down, but I remember laughing at the hair, couldn't tell who's was worse, hers or Jermaines......thought it was pretty cool, her show always had a bit of whimsy and humor at its heart.....

These are both from the same German TV special, featuring the Bee Gees, Julie Driscoll, and Swedish singer Lil Lindfors... and with sets done by pop artist Jean Christophe Averte...some of that artwork is SCARY AS HELL:

The mirror effect in the chorus on this totally COOL however [[But again, the creepy artwork, the giant laughing head behind Robin haunts me at night):

Marv, I think Cher's hair in that clip is what makes it kind of hilarious... Jermaine's hair looks ridiculous, too... but anyone who names a kid Jermajesty you know has got a questionable taste level. I love Cher to death... but her solo show made a quite a few missteps, and that's one of the reasons it only lasted one season. Here is a big example of "what were they thinking?" I don't know if it was the producer's idea... but I felt so sorry for Kate Smith in this. She was SO out of her depth, and looked so left out with Cher and Tina hamming it up with each other. Not to mentioned the set looked like a box of skittles exploded all over it. If I were the producer of that show, I would have left out the stupid schitck parts of that medley, and let Tina and Cher sing it alone, EXCEPT for a portion where Kate would have appeared on a different part of the stage to sing something more appropriate for her, like "Fool On the hill".

But then again, there was a mistake or two on the original Sonny and Cher comedy hour, such as the time they sung a medley of the hits of 1972, and they had Dinah Shore singing Three Dog Night's "Joy To the World". BIG, FAT MISTAKE. It made me laugh till I peed, though.

I like groups that have fun with the lip sync. Paul Revere And The Raiders had what appears to be a scream on this Swingin' Time clip....

The Gladys & The Muppets clips was cute. I don't remember that one.

But I do remember the California Raisin Michael Jackson ad. Exciting and hilarious!

The generation gap was never quite as wide as what we see in this clip here...the great Sky Saxon and his band, the Seeds, doing their classic "Pushin' Too Hard", on the late '60s sitcom The Mothers-In-Law, of all places!!

One that comes to mind: Paula Abdul performing Vibeology on the 1991 MTV Awards. Very unfortunate and unflattering costume and she's trying way too hard.

to be honest, I actually think that song is a bit like "noise". I find the beat too droning, and the vocals far too monotone.

Okay, I admit that Cher, Tina Turner and Kate Smith is an odd trio, but I have to say I think their three voices blend really well. I'm a big fan of the old school performers like Kate Smith, and I think Cher and Tina Turner, journeymen both who spent lots of time paying their dues on the road and - especially in Cher's case - being dismissed and written off several times as either having no talent or being a has been, would have a lot of respect for someone like Kate Smith who had such a long and successful career. One thing that was fun about the Cher show - and many of the variety shows in general - was that a lot of performers appeared who hadn't been seen for a while. This was also true of the Tony Orlando and Dawn Show.

Hey, where are the Pink Lady & Jeff highlight reels???

You bad girl...

Did they even have any idea what they were singing about? I doubt it. Their choreography is so frantic, you kind of think one is going to break an arm or lose a limb or something. I suppose it was intentional not to do the classic "Stop!" gesture so as to be given their own "interpretation," of the song, shall we say.
