She was dark skinned just like Mary Wilson cause I looked a photo when they were the primettes and she was very dark skinned when flo was the lightest and Mary was also dark.Diana has always looked weird to me her face and Mary Wilson was considered the most attractive member of The Supremes back in the 60's but Diana I think her skin has been lightened since the 60's like in the early 60's when she was a teen she started bleaching her skin to be lighter.I dont know why but maybe Berry Gordy wanted it I mean back then you had to be light to really be seen as beautiful no dark skin woman would be able to achieve crossover success but her daughter with a white man is very brown and thats weird because if Diana was light the child would have been very light not darker than her.

Couch you will need a king size bed for this one LOL. I don't believe Diana has bleched her skin. I'm sure if you asked folks that saw Ross back in the 60's would tell you, that they were not as dark as a lot of photos portrayed them to be. I've never seen Diana up close, but I've seen Mary a few times up close who was considered darker than Diana, Mary is lighter than a brown paper bag [[some will get the reference) so Diana is lighter. No bleaching just better lighting;)

Mary is lighter than a brown paper bag [[some will get the reference) so Diana is lighter. This wasted thread reminds me of my introduction to Southern society with brown paper bag parties in New Orleans of the early 70s. Who cares if she has bleached her skin? My life is not affected one way or the other.

It is lighting and makeup. You cannot judge from photographs because lighting situations and camera exposure settings vary greatly. [[You especially shouldn't compare snap shots to professional shots.) Sure makeup can temporarily lighten your skin [[until you wash it off!). I just helps so that you show up on TV cameras and film. Makeup is part of the show business routine.

Of course it's all in the lighting and the make up, I agree! She also could have just be losing her nature skin tone through aging. You know, she also could have that Vitiligo stuff. Michael Jackson had it too and they were close at one time. She may have caught it from him.

Actually I think Diana Ross had a skin peel around her 40th birthday. If you look at her 60s and 70s photos, she little freckles around her eyes. By 1985 they were gone. I think, and I'm not a doctor, the only way to remove them would have been a skin peel but perhaps some other suggestions might come to light.

Nah! She just got Michael cooties. Vitiligo isn't contagious, nor is it a disease. It is simply the loss of melanin in the skin. Diana Ross did not have vitiligo.

A person's skin can lighten up us if they stay indoors with somewhat dim lighting for a long time. That can happen to entertainers trying to avoid people.

Not only that, Diana's eyes were damaged back in the 70s when a paparazzi's camera flashed in her eyes. She probably tends to avoid lots of light as a result. That would also be a cause of her skin lightening up if it ever has.

No, Soulster... her retinas were damaged by the lights in the giant head in the filming of the Wiz. And therefore, she avoids sudden bursts of light or direct sun in her EYES.... she doesn't avoid light in general. I know all about this because I have the same condition. Mine was caused by looking directly at three sparklers being lit with each other at the same time, while my eyes were dilated from being in darkness. I avoid flash bulbs, and sun in the eyes... but I work outside every day for my career, there is no pain or discomfort involved in being outside... trying to drive into the sun, YES... but just being outdoors, NO. While camera flashes can give a person a temporary vision issue, they are never permanent and cannot damage your eyes. The condition is called phototoxic retinopathy.

Right, no "trick photography." While the paparazzi photo on the right is overexposed and with less contrast, I don't doubt she is a slightly diff shade at her age. I still don't think she intentionally lightens her skin. The whole body would be a lot of skin to "bleach."

Ok guys, I am starting to have a problem believing that Diana Ross did not bleach her skin. The photo on the left below was from the opening number of her 1971 television special, "Diana!". This is when she is walking in the ocean. The lighting is so bright that the color of the water is almost white, so we can't use that excuse this time. The photo on the right is from 2000 at the 31st Annual NAACP Image Awards. Something doesn't look right to me especially looking at her neck, collar bone ,etc.

No... That would definitely not prove it. The one on the left is from a TV camera with the sun and ocean behind her; the other is with flash in a dark environment. Two totally different lighting conditions. In the sun, a camera iris has to be closed down to avoid over-exposure in the camera; At a reception where the room is dim, the camera iris would be opened more so folks show up better [[flash included).

While she may not be the same skin tone at her age, it doesn't have to be from "bleaching."

sadly, lighting may be the culprit, but the thing this entire thread is missing is that is impossible for one to bleach one's skin. LOL! bleaching or lightening of one's skin is just not possible. if it were, one would be able to witness an endless line of black folks around the I wanna be whiter block in every major metropolitan area in the US that bleaching was available. come on people. Well, I had read in several places that it was a photographer's camera. No matter how it happened, it's really irrelevant to this charge that she bleaches her skin. I simply offered a possible explanation. The skin does get lighter if one avoids sunlight.

Ladonna, there are skin creams that bleach the skin. Hell, Michael Jackson even bleached his skin. Bleaching is used to even out skin tone on the body because it is not uniform on many people. Back in the old days, Black people bleached their skin to be more acceptable to society.

And, i'll bring this up for fun, although it's true, but do you know porno actresses have their a***** bleached?

Yes. Me! I went years working at night, rarely going outside during the day. My skin got lighter as a result. It's just the same as my family was lighter skinned when we lived in the midwest. When we moved to the southwest, our skin tone got darker. It's all about science.

And, i'll bring this up for fun, although it's true, but do you know porno actresses have their a***** bleached?

i was half way thru' my burger then!blimey riley..

Perhaps "homebody" is trolling, trying to start things up. He did manage to start a couple of good discussions [[not this one), whatever his intent.

I thought that too at first, but his thread "Do you think the evolution of hip hop and R&B music has changed people's accents?" is such a brilliant topic that I'm not so sure now.

Well, this thread is kind of silly. But the first one had merit, and the second one did cause some good discussion about language.

But, notice something? All three of homeboy's...homebody's threads revolve around the same thing: RACE! It's almost like he [[or she) is trying to bait people or draw them out.

Bleaching cream. He may actually have had vitiligo, but i'm wondering about that because I don't think it progresses that quickly.

I always wondered why no one else in his very large family had it.

I don't think Homebody was coming from a brilliant place when he started that thread, it just became a very thoughtful and informed thread due to the particular respondents. I think Homebody is more interested in gossip and scandals and rumors.

Where marv2 goes trouble always follows.

Truer words have never been spoken on this site.

But unless people know exactly what kind of makeup D. Ross has used throughout her career [[and I'm sure its changed over time) or how much time she has spent out in the sun when certain pictures were taken or how much sun exposure she gets now, and then the type of film, exposure and camera that has taken each and every photograph, this is really quite an ignorant thread.

It all depends on the makeup and the lighting. Look at this photo. Diana is the same color as Scherrie and Lynda.

Look how dark she is here...

Then there's this photo from the 60's. Diana, Mary and Flo all look light.

If you look at the area around the aureola, it tells the true skin color and then you can compare it to the face.

Marv could check those for us but I don't think he is interested in aureolas.

LOL. I'm sure somewhere in his vast collection of Diana Ross photos there has to be a halo around one of them.

Let's pretend Diana was bleaching her skin. Even if it was true, it really is none of our business. People criticized Michael Jackson for years, yet it's ironic that these same critics probably do not pay any mind to the white people who want to change the color of their skin. Society is obsessed with tanning, tanning beds and self-tanners in all sizes, shapes, forms and prices. Everyone wants to look darker. How is that any different? Why does no one say anything about that? But if it's a black person who looks whiter, simply because of makeup or lighting or even a skin disease, they are automatically judged and sentenced.
