3664The only records I get now are complementary CDs from Ace/Kent Records, for providing research, label scans and loaning rare records for recording. I got the big majority of my collection [[45s, 78s, LPs) during 1953-1972, mostly from discount/bargain bins in record shops, ten cent sales at Walgreens, thrift stores and junk stores, and trading several duplicates for individual rare records. I traded my Blues & R&B 78s for 45s. I've never bought records on auction. I also bought relatively cheap records from John Anderson's Soul Bowl and John Manship's warehouse [[in The UK) in person. I bought a few records from Craig Moerer during the 1970s, and bought most of the rarer Golden World/Ric Tic/Wingate Records from our own Ron Murphy [[also early '70s). Those are the only mail order records I've bought [[less than .01 % of my total collection). I also traded many Northern Soul duplicates to Martin Koppel in Toronto, for rare Detroit 45s. I got thousands of records from 1953-1972[[when I moved to The Netherlands. I've only gotten maybe about 100 45s and 1 or 2 LPs since then, and maybe 25 CDs [[probably had more than 2/3 those CD cuts on vinyl.

Wherever I can...junk shops, the occasional record show, a couple of decent used vinyl shops in the area...I picked up two 45s Saturday night at the store located in the basement of the Beachland Ballroom [[went there to see Little Charles Walker with his new band, the Dynamites): a Sandy Wynns 45 on Champion [["Love Belongs to Everyone") and "Vibrations" by Eric and the Vikings [[FINALLY!).

I live where thankfully, there are lots of independant record shops, plus loads of junk, charity, flea market type places. I have got some real gems here. You do have to trawl the tons of dregs though, but thats part of the fun. Because you never know what you might find. Although, many are second hand / used, I do find an awful lot of still factory sealed albums. There are bagains out there. I normally pay around £3 max for an album and between 50p and £1 for a 45 or 12". ASny new CDs I try and buy new from the local independants. Oh, by the way, I am in Brighton, England...Paulo xxx

I too am lucky to live near a great oldies shop[memory lane records]small and intimate with great prices and the guys who run it know some music too,i also love the thrift stores where rare gems can be found for two bucks!
