Tracee Ellis Ross might be known in Hollywood as a fashionista, but the 38-year-old actress admits she often needs help getting dressed. No, she doesn't have a stylist; instead she solicits aid from her friends [[via iPhone pics) and from her mother, Diana Ross, known for her frequent costume changes.

For a party recently in her honor, she showed off her pick from her mother's closet, a vintage black Jackie Rogers she wore with animal-print Prada heels. Over cocktails at Shun Lee, family and friends toasted her recent Essence magazine cover and her starring role in a new series this season, "Reed Between the Lines." Ms. Ross, known best for her eight-season role on "Girlfriends," called the anticipated offering from BET the "new Cosby show." In it, she plays therapist Dr. Carla Reed, who's married to Dr. Jack Reed, portrayed by "Cosby" alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

Ms. Ross's sister, Rhonda Ross Kendrick and father Bob Ellis, were at the party that included fashion pioneer Bethann Hardison, BET Chief Debra L. Lee, actor Michael Ealy and U.K. singer Corinne Bailey Rae.

Like a supportive husband, Mr. Warner made an appearance, calling his relationship with his co-star "the best nonphysical affair I've ever had."
