Nice playlists Souldonuts. Interesting that some good tracks from 1967 are included. Here in the U.S. ,1967 was a very good year
for defining what we call Soul music ,as opposed to what was previously known as R&B. Soul per say was not based on the same blues structure as R&B. The term "Soul Music" ,was coined by Berry Gordy. It described the new sound of R&B ,that developed out of Motown ,Chicago and Philly ,while in the south , R&B's blues structure was the basis for Stax and the other southern based lables. In fact ,SOUL MUSIC ,which is based on R&B ,was the key to R&B's surviving what is called here, the "British Invasion" of 63-67. Those groups like The Beatles, Stones ,The Who etc, would eventually incorporate some elements of the Blues/R&B and Soul in their music.

Also I wanted to ask you if you consider your playlist/compilations as Northern Soul? Some people here in the U.S. don't understand that what's called Northern Soul, is actually American Soul/R&B music [[circa 1960 -71) that is popular in many clubs in the Northern U.K. I think that's interesting ,that the genre is based on imported music ,and is so popular.

The northern soul movement, however, generally eschews Motown or Motown-influenced music that has met with significant mainstream success. Later on, certain clubs and DJs began to move away from the 1960s Motown sound and began to play newer releases with a more contemporary sound.
My playlists especially on my radio show doesnt cover the Northern side of the music, more upto date urban and indie soul, plus what we call 70.s Modern Soul[[ i have put up a podcast to test the waters here on the forum...)
Northern soul as we call it is still an aquired taste in the UK, having said that i still drop the occasional northern soul record on my show.
