Lionel Richie has called off a London concert and stopped recording his latest album due to a sudden illness.
The veteran R&B hitmaker had been set to appear alongside Lenny Kravitz at this upcoming weekend's BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park festival, but has now been forced to cancel the gig.
The star has revealed that in addition to no-showing the concert, he's also been forced to take time away from the studio where he's been busy recording.
"Due to illness, Lionel Richie will not be able to perform at Hyde Park as billed," says BBC 2 radio DJ Chris Evans. "As much as Lionel is distressed at canceling this show for his fans and Radio 2, he would never allow himself to give less than 100 per cent excellence in performance.
"We talked to him in America yesterday, he said, 'I'm sorry that I wont be able to make the concert on Sunday.' He was recording his new album, that's also had to stop as well."
In a statement to his disappointed English fans, Richie promises to make up the date just as soon as he's feeling better.
"The show has a fantastic line up and I was looking forward to joining the other artists on what promises to be a fabulous day of entertainment," he says. "To all the fans that bought tickets I promise to be back very soon and make up for it with something very special."
