Anyone here know much about the Baltimore group the Blendells / Blendels ...
They were active in the mid to late 60's through to the early 70's.
The group worked with the likes of Baltimore's Joe Tate & DC's Al Haskins [[who had 45's out himself on Quest & Sure Shot).
The 1st 45 the group seemed to have out was issued around 1968 with their last escaping in the early [[mid?) 70's ........
The Blendells – “Night After Night / The Love That I Needed” -- Captown CTN 4029 + Cotillion 45-44020 [[ both in 1968): Captown was a DC based label.
Blendels – Did You Mean / You Need Love [[1969) -- Dontee # 100 [[Baltimore)
Blendels – Beware / Instrumental -- Dontee # 104
Blendels – La, La, the Magic Song / In The Summer -- Jotee #601
[[Jotee Records was another Baltimore based record label run by Joe Tate).
THe group had no connection [[at least that I know about) to the Blendells [[a 1960s Mexican American soul group from east LA) who enjoyed success in 1964 with their cover of Stevie Wonder's "La La La La La" [[ released on Reprise).
An interesting aside ........... the Three Pieces [[a DC based / Fantasy Records trio) who came under the wing of Donald Byrd at Howard University in the late 60’s comprised Andre Everett Richardson [[percussionist), Lincoln Ross [[trombone / keyboards ) & Jerry Wilder [[bass / lead vocals).
Richardson began studying drums when he was 12 at MacFarland Junior High in Washington. He played local shows [[as a pick up musician) with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, the Whispers, and a whole string of lesser known East Coast soul acts. Richardson also recorded for Joe Tate with outfits such as the Blendel[[l)s prior to hooking up with Donald Byrd at college and forming the Three Pieces.
