Wow...is that what you adults in the US prefer to listen to...what's the qualifying age 103.

Nice to see Elton John at the top, as he has always been a huge soul fan... David Nathan recalls selling him obscure soul singles when he was still called Reg Dwight! Elton went on to perform on Soul Train, and to work with Thom Bell and the Spinners. His interest continues to this very day; Tata Vega is one of his backing vocalists on his current tour.

He also was Patti LaBelle and Bluebelles aka "LaBelle"s piano player in the late 60's, early 70's!

Thanks for that interesting post Mike.

Yea, the list kind of blew me away as well...........but who can account for changing public tastes. Elton, Neil and Barbra..........lol. But you can't deny, they are very popular.

Well the list does reflect 50 years of charts and also most of the biggest acts like Barbra, Neil, Carpenters, Elton etc. Had the benefit of the era where you could run a song up and down the chart in 13 weeks, garnering them more hits and chart entries. Now the AC chart moves so slow that an act can have one song last a year on it. Elton had one of his fits about that recently.....

Sometime around 1995, things changed so much in the music market with downloading and the disappearance of singles sales, that it doesn't make much sense to compare the before and the after.

But charts are always fun and they reflect popularity over certain periods.

A friend who was backstage at the Elton John concert here in the UK a couple of weeks ago told me today that not only is Tata Vega in his touring vocal support group, but so is Rose Stone of Sly and The Family Stone, aka Rose Banks of Motown.....

Tata & Rose both sang back-up on the Elton John & Leon Russell album The Union and are featured in the video of Elton & Leon performing the complete album at the Beacon Theater in NYC. Tata ROCKS!
