Heard it on my local FM station but naturally they didn't identify the artists. It is funky southern soul and the man starts out talking about how tired he is of being accused of cheating. Says he is tired of "he said she said", that he brings home his paycheck, etc.

About 3/4 through the song, a woman briefly chimes in and says she is tired of hearing the same old thing about him and whatever woman he has been with. The two voices sounded a lot like Joe Tex and Carla Thomas but I can't recall them ever doing a duet together.

Any ideas based on that limited info?

"Hearsay" by Soul Children, perhaps.

If so, it's a great track. If not, it's still a great track.

I recently introduced some friends to "Taxi" by their ex-lead singer, J. Blackfoot. They were stopping over for a night and told me in the morning that it had become a nighttime earworm. Another great track!

I was lucky enuff to see the Soul Children LIVE when they were still on Stax & they were great. "I'll Understand" & "Don't Take My Kindness for Weakness" are my 2 faves by them. The lead female singer Sabrina Bennett[[I think) was promised a big solo career that fell through. The other 3 went on to Epic Records & had some pretty good stuff but business went sour.

I'll Be the Other Woman is another great Soul Children record. They started out as an Issac Hayes/David Porter project after Sam and Dave left Stax. As for "Hearsay" that song was produced by Stax co founder Jim Stewart.

I'll Be The Other Woman" was a huge hit and I think thats the one that somebody was telling Sabrina she could be a big solo star.I'll have to look in one of those Stax books if it has the story on them & what went down.

The live version of Hearsay at Wattstax is so much fun with the instigating, the group getting the men and the ladies in the audience into a competition and then the final plot twist at the end.

It sure is! It is so good that it took up both sides of the single release.
