The inspiration for the US show [[& 100's of others around the world) was the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing'. One of the resident singers on that show [[they don't use the original recordings) has always been black, so we gets lots of Motown / soul songs on the show. We even had a NS fan celebrity on one year & he danced to Motown tunes a lot.

Back in the day [[60's / 70's) soul fans would travel by coach to allnight soul sessions hosted @ big clubs such as the Wigan Casino or Blackpool Mecca ... the BBC reflected that practise in their tribute to NS dance ...

Not a Motown song at all, but one of the dancing duos danced to the Spinners' 1980 remake of "Working My Way Back To You." Quite the full circle moment, as the 19-year old keyboardist who worked with the Spinners during that recording session is now the Musical Director of "Dancing With The Stars": Ray Chew.
