For those of you who can't get enough of hearing this song [[and I count myself in that category), our own Midnight Johnny has produced an extended version of this song on Youtube lasting 5:15. I am hoping it's a taster for the 30 minute version!

I am a die hard Supremes fan but I always thought Martha and the Vandellas had better dance steps! I normally dont like extended versions of songs but this is really good. Thanks Midnight and Xtown.

John...30 minute version? HAAAAaaaaaa.....I would have done one but youtube has a 15 minute [[new) limitation for the stuff I put up....and I suppose that it's a good thing!

theboyfromxtown...I agree, I still can't get enough of this one..and this remix is indeed 25 minutes too short....!

Stephanie...I agree, the Vandellas did have better dance steps [[and I can think of at least one Supreme who would agree too!). I wish they had dressed and moved like that for the Ed Sullivan show performance. Would have been more appropriate than those ball gowns and more restrained moves, and maybe could even have clinched that so nearly number one spot...

midnight johnny...brilliant, yet again! So, how many Motown remixes of yours have there been to date, and are they all still available...and, for those like me who are a little inept with their computer skills, where may we find all of them, please?

More, please.....

westgrand....thanks VERY much for that! I really don't know how many Motown remixes I've done....maybe at least 300 on youtube that I have posted...and 453 altogether [[Motown and non-Motown).
This is the youtube link to my channel. Here you can get to any or all of the extended versions I've done. I appreciate your interest and kind words...

You say you wish you had a place to house your extended versions...

Well, I just wish Universal would give you a load of money for the Motown ones, put them in the vaults with the rest of all those great, great master recordings...and then release them straight away, on to the general market...where they darn well deserve to be.

Then, we'd ALL be happy....

p.s. with a member name like mine, maybe I should buy an old house in Detroit [[there must be plenty for sale), have the garage converted into a recording studio, and we could store them there....?!!

Maybe if I email them and say 'Hi, Harry & Andy, this is Berry Gordy', do you think there's a chance - ?!

They'd probably just say 'But Berry, you don't own the company any more....!' lol!

There has to be another way.

Who mixes/masters/assembles the new Universal/Motown release these days?

Couldn't they sub-contract you to make a project of it?

Anyone else have any ideas, I wonder....

What I was told...when I was brazen enough to ask directly...is that Harry is the 'decider". Not sure who does the new stuff, but since I only deal with the old stuff...I think it would be Harry.

Midnight Johnny why don't you start a Private Blog, and put your remixes up on it, that way you can invite people you can trust not to go running around; brown nosing copyright holders.
A good one is Blog.com, but there are others, and as I and others on here have missed a lot of your remixes, it gives us a chance to collect them; without having to worry about "Big Brother" stamping his boot down on it.
Just a thought!

StoneDiamond....thanks for the suggestion! It seems that Blog.com has it's own 3rd party limitations, and it seems as though it will let you post LINKS to videos that are homed on another site [[such as youtube). A good try, though! It seems as though I will try youtube again, but I will be very careful to only use video and audio material from KNOWN friendly companies [[UME has been very good to me and has not had an issue with my posting the remixes, seeing them more as promotion as opposed to copyright infringement).

So for those interested, I have started to post previous remixes...here is the link to my channel...and thank you all for your support and continued interest.

I love your "I can't help myself" remix, especially once it gets past the first 1.50 mins ...!

For some unknown reason that I can't quite explain, the mono Funk Brothers version with Earl Van Dyke's added piano, while sounding great, also sounds discordant to my ears. Almost as if it's off pitch with the band track and the strings.

Something tells me it's slightly different with the stereo version, but it's a while since I heard it.

Anyone here able to tell me which CD[[s) feature[[s) the stereo version, please?

John

It was on both Sky News & BBC News 24 over the weekend, don't know where to go to find the details thou, but they said that the copyright laws have been changed to let people put up Mash-up's and their mixes of records on sites such as YouTube. they also said something has changed in the file sharing department; letting people share a certain amount of files, but again you'll have to check up on the detail, to know exactly the letter of the new law, but it looks good for people like us, that just love the music, and go out and buy the new CD's, and want to play around with the sound. Bootlegging is still illegal as it should be thou.

Didn't you ever watch "Mary Poppins"?
The Queen was about to appear so I didn't have time to try and jump into the art.

It's not etiquette to wolf down a few lagers in front of her majesty! We drink tea from cups on saucers and raise our pinky to show good breeding.

Like a mug I bought TML-11200, and have never heard the stereo mix :-[[

I have to say that some of the tracks on the stereo albums in that series were 'electronically reprocessed'...and sounded just horrid. As though they were being played from the end of a very long tunnel.

I still have the original vinyl album, and a working turntable [[at least, it WAS working last time I tried it..!)

I'll have to give it another listen. The difference is not huge but, on reflection, I think EVD could well be playing piano chords on the mono version which include two consecutive notes on the keyboard, giving that jazz, if discordant effect. It could even be overdubbing the version that was available in stereo.

It seems as though all the versions on CD over recent years have been the mono version. While I've not bought it,I naturally have to assume the Complete Motown Singles would indeed be mono.

Were these 'Non-stop Classics' albums never released on CD? If so, I wonder which version of EVD 'I Can't Help Myself' was used....

And if I knew how to relatively easily transfer sound from a vinyl album, and mail it to you in an attachment, I certainly would....!

I've ripped the mono album, and put it into the Sony Sound Forge, and cut the track into a new window.
Then given it left & right channels, on the left I've muted all the sound up from 640hz, and on the right I've muted all the sound down from 450 hz. It gives a stereo feel, but as bass is umidirectional, it's a tad one sided, so I'm experimenting moving the Hz alone to the right till I get a feel for left -centre-right. 900hz seems better if I have the next channel at 4.7db. It ain't perfect, but that does give a stereo feel; but I'd prefer the original stereo album, so I'm hunting on ebay, and Discog's to buy a copy.

I'm sorry; I always understood that "good breeding" meant being kind and making it past 5 minutes.

I guess it's in the right direction even if there is still a long way to go.....!!

Someone better make a no doubt very short list of countries where these fab remixes CAN be heard!
Glad Soul Appeal is back, alas no Dancing - for the time being.
