The 80s have a certain reputation for the sound of the music of that decade. Of all Diana Ross' recordings from that decade, which is the most 80s [[for better or for worse) in its production/music/instrumentation or even lyrics?

'Touch by touch' comes to mind. I thought it sounded very 80's back in the 80's. And not in a good way.

'Up Front' which I love. Sadly no one else seems to like it.

- The whole "Ross" album because it's her first digital recording for the "clean" aesthetic of the eighties.
- "All of you" with max of reverb
- "Swept away"
- "telephone" was very new in 84, but it has length

Anywhere You Run To
“Any Where You Run To” sounded more like the theme song from a 1978 sitcom, the same with “Two Can Make It”. Both are a far cry from the contemporary sounding ‘diana’ album.

I'll go with Swept Away as it's very over the top and of its period.
For ballads, "It's Hard for Me to Say"--that keyboard is so of its period in terms of Adult Contemporary songs.

My choices, too! Best 80's pop and soul from the RCA years.

I'll go with the aerobic WORK THAT BODY or with the MJ inserted MUSCLES.

I wasn't asking for her "best" 80s recordings, but those that just sound "80s" through and through. I have different choices for her best pop and soul/ballad recordings from that decade.

I think much of the “Swept Away” album very 80’s.

I should have said "most representative of the 80's sounds". Although I do think It's Hard For Me To Say ranks with Missing You as her best RCA soul/ballads. I think Summertime is her best pop performance on RCA. I'm curious now what your choices are for her best 80's pop and soul/ballad recordings.

It started before RCA, but not that long before, but I find her interpreter abilities more effective when she started choosing her own songs, no matter if they were good or bad.
- Summertime, ethereal, sophisticated and very Diana Ross.
- Missing you, Motown quality label.
- Love or loneliness, great lyrics and eternal Supremes sound.
- Don't give up on each other, pop epic but not bombastic. [[In the same bag, Watching you, experience)
- All of you, glossy pop.
- Love lies, power ballad. IDKW, but it works for me.
- Tell me again. Sugary but soulful.
I'm still debating with myself about "hard for me to say". I like her performance but I find the song a bore.

Gotta agree with Sans here. Of her 80s catalog, it's the one that I would have to say could never be mistaken for her 70s or 90s output. Only the 80s could have produced "We Are the Children".

definitely the orchestration. along with Anywhere You Run To, both sound like an 80s sitcom theme music. or an 80s pop/romcom movie

to me it could be seventies live "love boat", or the Osmond Brothers.
