Heikki:
I was especially happy to read comments from Graziano Uliani, who invited Rufus to the Porretta Soul Music Festival in Italy altogether six times. Today Porretta is the number one maintainer of Memphis music legacy in the world, and Rufus has a park dedicated to him over there.

This is cool! Have no idea why {?} a park ? , but hurray for him!

hey I just thought of this , maybe its a dog park! :o

Hi Boogiedown!

In Porretta the Rufus Thomas Park is actually the arena for all the shows and performances. That's where the annual soul music festival in July is held. Graziano Uliani is a big fan of Rufus. There's also a bridge dedicated to Solomon Burke and a street dedicated to Otis Redding.

Best regards
Heikki

Back in the mid 60's, 3 of the top soul singers with UK mods were Lee Dorsey, Don Covay & Rufus T ... his "Walking The Dog", "Jump Back" & "Willy Nilly" were massive in the clubs.
ALSO, just about every UK beat group would do cover versions of those songs in their live acts.

Thanks for the news Hekki! I've always enjoyed Rufus Thomas' work during his time at Stax Records from "Walking The Dog" thru his set at Wattstax so this book should be a great read.

Best always to you & yours, Motown Eddie
