The vast majority of songs recorded by DMF/DMC were "love songs." I am making a list of studio tracks they recorded that could be categorized as message songs. Can you make any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

1. A Change Is Gonna Come
2. What the World Needs Now Is Love
3. Blowin' in the Wind
4. The Young Folks
5. Shadows of Society

And....?

lol luke, I was going to say the same thing!

I wish we were doing Marvelettes message songs. My suggestions would be:
Don't Mess With Bill [[Leave My Billy Alone)
Keep Off, No Trespassing
Danger, Heartbreak Dead Ahead

Those are the kind of message songs I'd want on a compilation CD.

"Keep An Eye" certainly carries a message..... "A friend is an enemy you can't see....":D

Strange how "Love Child" is still relevant today?!
I would have thought we'd overcome that one by now.
I blame it on our Italian food being available through "drive-ups".

heck I always thought
"REFLECTIONS"
was a message song

To me a message song is a song about politics or injustice or a higher calling/love, not a song offering common sense advise about relationships. Some of the songs mentioned on this thread like Don't Mess with Bill and Keep an Eye are not what I would classify as "message songs".

To broaden the subject to Motown [[I mean, how much more Sups message songs are there?)... well, maybe Did You Read The Morning Paper [[Diana Ross) ?

I Should Be Proud by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas [[1969) was one of the first Motown message songs with upfront biting lyrics about the Nam war. Musically not the best song, though.

"My Favorite Things" a message song?! We forgot "What the World Needs Now," and "The Shadows of Society."

Well, Jeff ... I guess it's how we personally define a "message" song. No big deal, really. But I see this as a message to one's self about the value of optimism: "I simply remember my favorite things ... and then I don't feel so bad."

p.s. Actually, on the post [[above) where you noticed "My Favorite Things," you will in fact see "What the World Needs Now [[#2)" and "Shadows of Society [[#5)."

Thanks for your input.
