Belately found news of Benny's death on another site & did not recall a post on SDF.

Benny was renouned for the classic "Lipstick Traces/Fortune Teller", both songs having been covered by numerous artists, he was also heard on Ernie K Doe's monster hit "Mother-in-Law".

Benny R.I.P. & condolences to family & friends.

As a big New Orleans music fan, it has to be pointed out that Benny Spellman was SO much more than the bass voice on the massive hit "Mother-In-Law"...he cut the original versions of both "Fortune Teller" [[later immortalized by the Rolling Stones on their first live album) and "Lipstick Traces" [[remade by the original O'Jays lineup) and cut a number of other records, while unheralded, are pure New Orleans soul and just plain fun songs. His songs "This Is For You, My Love" and "The Word Game" are well-known to Northern soul fans. RIP, Benny, and thank you... :[[
