Sorry to learn this. The Coasters were always one of my favorite groups. Years ago, while in The Sunliners, I was fortunate to be on the same bill with the group on a T.V. show. After the show, Carl asked me if I would like to join him in a round of golf. Even though I wasn't a golfer, I would have jumped at the opportunity, but had to decline the offer due to a further band commitment.

This is a big lost to our musical heritage and in many ways an end to an era. Carl Gardner was central to the Coasters Story. He will be missed. RIP Carl and thank you.

It is sad to read about Carl's passing but he had been sick for a while due to Alzheimer's and it took quite a toll on him. He was a very nice man and is proudly displayed on our "Salute to Our Musical Heritage" board at school. Our prayers go to his family, especially his wife Veta who helped care for him.

Sorry to hear this...he was part of one of the best early rock/R&B vocal groups, and I'm glad that he was able to continue the Coasters' legacy for sometime afterward. RIP, Carl, and thank you... :[[

Best,

So sad to hear this as I loved the Coasters music & sense of fun "T'aint Nothin' To Me" & "Poison Ivy" being particular favourites.
