I came across this video on YouTube not too long ago, and found discovered a very cool video. The footage was extracted from what I believe to be a television series titled “Soul Time USA”. I’ve never heard of the program before and the footage is from before I was born.
Do any of you all have any recollection of “Soul Time USA”.

I also discovered a video of Motown singer Blinky Williams on Soul Time USA which I believe to be the only footage of her from that time in existence today.

See Blinky sing “I Wouldn’t Change” here:

I’m assuming that it was likely to be a dance show, however I never thought that there were any “SOUL” themed dance shows before Don Cornelius.

I was surprised to find a show from '65 called "Night Train" and one from '66 called "The Beat." Though they didn't necessarily feature audience members dancing, they were definitely %100 soul music-focused.

What an incredible find! Thanks for posting it. I like that revolving dance floor!

I can't believe the Blinky video only has 800 and change views. I would have thought a lot more people would have watched that one. Nice production too with the still photos and film of Blinky being woven into the live performance. And Blinky is giving it a million percent. Wow. If nothing else, the song should have made her even a one-hit wonder.

Dannyboy1968, there are several Blinky appearances around this time.
"Harlem Cultural Festival" 1969." 4 songs.
"Mike Douglas Show." 1970.
"Playboy After Dark." 1970. 1 song.
"Sammy Davis In Vietnam"
"Black Omnibus" 1970. 2. songs.
I can`t find any other Motown artists on "Soul Time USA". I believe that "The Beat!!" & "Night Train" didn`t feature any Motown artists.

Many episodes of THE BEAT !!! have been released on dvd. Great performances by Etta James, Esther Phillips, Johnnie Taylor, amongst others. I bought quite a few but as you mention, I don't recall any Motown artists appearing.

Gladys Knight and the Pips appeared on NIGHT TRAIN during their pre-Motown era.

Thanks reece. The Beat!!! was a great show and the film quality is exceptional. Such a pity that they didn`t have any Motown acts.
