From The Second Disc.com:
Back in late January, we shared news of Philadelphia International Records’ 50th anniversary plans [[https://theseconddisc.com/2021/01/25/wake-up-everybody-50-years-of-philadelphia-international-celebrated-by-legacy-recordings-vmp-snapper-music/). These look like such great sets. I have to abstain - can't buy everything - but I sure hope others take advantage of these releases.

Is the pre-order up and running somewhere? I have the first set so I'll get this one also just for completion sake. Also, anyone know how the first set sold?

Does anyone here know the plans for Volume 3 release?

The last one came out late last year, so was expecting Volume 3 by now.

For those who missed Volume 1 and 2, they are beautiful packages and sound great too.

Exciting was the day at the monthly Pasadena record swap, back when it was outdoors in one of the City College's nearby tree shaded parking lots, when at one of my favorite vendor's, I was foraging through his 45s and I stumbled upon this record. He was one of the dealers that provided a turntable and he didn't mind you playing what he had to offer to see if you wanted it or not.
I put the record on and as it played the excitement built through me. This is it! This is the record that birthed disco!!

It's been many years since that day, and although thousands of records have since passed through my hands, my opinion of that discovery has not changed.

That song came from a vastly underrated album. The whole album is great. I first had the album on cassette tape. A couple of songs had to grow on me, but now I like it even better. I've been playing it the last couple of days in the car. I have heard that the album did not sale well. Then I've heard that it did. I do know for a fact that when the Ojay's are mentioned in some articles, the album was not not even mention for some reason. Gamble & Huff and arrangers Martin and Bell did a very nice job.

When I first heard ONE NIGHT AFFAIR, I wasn’t schooled much on who was connected to who in the world of disco. In other words I didn’t know the salsoul orchestra was TSOP was The Trammps, Or who Thom bell and Bobby Martin were, nor did I know this was earl young playing with his signature tsss tiss if the high hat or Vince Montana playing xylophone. All that would fit together for me later.

The main problem regarding this recording is the tinny quality of the thin recording. The release sounds very dated, older than what else was currently out there. That’s what hindered its success imo.
The PIR state of the art sound studio was in the works and when it was available the depth it brought to this full orchestral music would change everything.

I never heard the album sounding "tinny and thin". The cassette I mentioned sounded full as does the CD that I own. The sound is normal for each format.
