I worry that the repetitive theme of the album makes each individual song sound trite. Sometimes less is more.

I personally quite like it, but know peeps who have heard it and think the same as you copley. Everyone of course is entitled to their own opinion.
Perhaps when you hear the full version you might feel differently. :)
