Thanks for sharing the article about James Brown's Star Time box set. I remember picking up my copy on the day in came out back in May 1991 and it's Still one of the Best Box Sets ever!

PS; I Love that quote from Prince about Star Time-“I can guarantee you nobody’s going to be doing this with my catalog after I’m gone.” And we Know what's been going on with his catalog since he's passed on 5 years ago.

James Brown fans like myself have had the great fortune of being treated to so many great releases. He’s also had one of the best biographers and annotator who I believe also wrote a great biography about Marvin Gaye. His extended singles set, which I think went to about 11 or so volumes, lots of the expanded releases including the live releases which include so much great unreleased material. I’ve been thinking for a while that the catalog seems to have dried up and as friends of mine on the forum know, my biggest fear is when the vault gets empty. I hope there’s still more to come on James Brown but we haven’t seen any in some years now so I think it’s over, but some of those releases have been fantastic. The box set was the great starter of all that, but many of the expanded issues are just outstanding. my favorites are “Messing With the Blues,” “James Brown Jazz,” the “Duets” comp, “Soul on Top,” and of course the multi-volume singles collection.

easier to think about him in broader terms than anyone this side of George Clinton. Lately
my jazz station has been re-visiting his instrumental stuff which is great for me because
my family had his Grits and Soul album when I was a lad. JB's organ playing would never
match Jimmy Smith but he did produce some nice soundscapes of standards and popular
covers like Our Day Will Come....
