Bobby Womack wrote it. I believe Pickett recorded it first.

In the liner notes of one cd, Bobby says that he wrote it to express how much he was in love with Sam Cooke's widow Barbara. As most know, there was a lot of controversy when Bobby married her three months after Sam was killed.

I like the beginning of Aretha's, but then she gets too high [[with echo effect) and too shrill. I love Pickett's with the
great female backing vocals.
I agree Marv with that order-Aretha is with the angels!!
