I have been compiling a list of albums to the best of my knowledge that have never seen a CD or digital release. Anything official not including Jasmine records or any other label that has produced albums from vinyl. Basically anything from the 50's through to 1979 that was pop, R&B and Country. I know most of us here might not be into country but I have noticed a lot of Decca albums have never seen a CD/Digital release nor has many ABC and Mercury albums. I dont want to include Best Of's or Greatest Hits albums. If albums have been compiled into a box set I dont want to include those either. Not aware of this recording?

I believe Millie's Tokyo album was only released over there. It is on the Polydor label and from what I can read, it came out in 1976.

I would love to see some of the END albums rereleased on CDs. To the best of my knowledge none have ever been.

Some great examples are:

END 301 Chantels
END 302 Rock and Roll Jamboree [Little Anthony & Imperials; Chantels; Dubs;
Ronnie Baxter; Jo-Ann Campbell; Eddie Platt & Orchestra; Buddy Lucas
and the Gone All Stars.
END 303 The Imperials featuring Little Anthony
END 304 Flamingo Serenade
END 305 Battle of the Groups, Vol. 1: Flamingos; Isley Bros; Imperials; Dubs.
END 309 Battle of the Groups, Vol. 2: Imperials; Flamingos; Chantels; Dubs.

These are all GREAT albums which were very popular at the time they were released. Most of them were released on the END label and nearly all rereleased on the Roulette label after they absorbed the END label.

Lol yes I seem to remember that as well! Cher doesn't seem to speak favourably of these albums that she did for Warner. There have been some bootlegs out there on CD, both individual disc versions and a threefer set.

A few more to add to the list...

Kim Weston:

For the First Time [[1966)
Johnny Nash & Kim Weston [[1969)
Big Brass Four Poster [[1970)

It seems that her This Is America LP is now available digitally.

That would have been me.
Don't give up hope but it is proving to be quite a challenge and maybe not financially viable.

It is unlikely to happen. The rights to this album were obtained back in 2015 but the company in question decided against releasing it. Another company considered it back in 2017 but they too did not proceed any further.
Companies will rarely take a chance on an album that is likely to sell less than 2000 copies worldwide. This particular album is not renowned for it's quality, and it is hard to imagine anyone other than a few hundred fanatical fans purchasing it.

Interesting; I've always wondered what the general break-point was for the number of copies sold needed to green-light a re-issue project.
Many releases from the last few years failed to reach the 1000 mark worldwide. Record companies are not interested in such low figures. These releases barely end up breaking even. This is why i implore fans to try and support the products that do get released. They are becoming less frequent as sales continue to under perform.
There is a reasonable roster of releases on the schedule for next year, but whether they ever see the light of day is not guaranteed in these uncertain times.

Interesting for me to reflect that in the sixties
on occasions, I frequently bought a vinyl album or single that had overall sales of less than 100 UK wide. I guess the record companies would take a chance and balance the losses against the big big winners. Nowadays we are a minority and diminishing audience like steam train enthusiasts or morris dancers. The numbers simply are not there and there has to be both a break even/ profit likelihood and a very good understanding of the potential buying community. I believe that a restricted issue of an Ivy Jo compilation and of a Wiilie Hutch / Originals/ RicTic anthology would sell out. Limit the numbered releases, make it clear limitedcedition and they will sell out. By the way every year record companies release current stuff and doesn't begin to recover their outlay, and they are gambling it might break through. With us, they are pushing on sn open door!

I still remain hopeful :) If Ethel Merman's disco album can get a CD release, then perhaps anything is possible!

Why not put it up on streaming/download?

Sony have been doing that recently. Take Bobby Lester's self titled solo album from 1970, for example.

Lulu's 1978/1979 effort "Don't Take Love for Granted" deserves a CD/digital release from the master tapes.

Rita Jean Bodine's two 20th Century albums also deserve a release. Both were produced by a woman, Carol Carmichael, which of course remains a rare occurrence.

Sony have been doing that recently. Take Bobby Lester's self titled solo album from 1970, for example.

That would be a decision for the record company if they were approached by one of the reissue labels but they don't seem too keen at the moment.

We are still working on this pair of gems!

It would be nice to have the The Sagittarius Movement & The Spice Of Life back in print [[so keep workin' on them). Jerry Butler also has a few other LPs from his peak years at Mercury Records that have yet to see a reissue:

The Soul Goes On [1968]
You And Me [1970]
One & One [with Gene Chandler-1970]
Jerry Butler Sings Assorted Sounds With The Aid Of Assorted Friends And Relatives [1971]
Power Of Love [1973]
The Love We Have, The Love We Had [with Brenda Lee Eager-1973]
Sweet Sixteen [1974]

Let the music play - Shannon
Josephine Superstar - Phyllicia Allen
The flag - Rick James
Jackie Jackson - Jackie Jackson
Mary Wilson - Mary Wilson

There are a few others which may have been released, and I've not been able to locate. Such as:
You are beautiful - The Stylistics
Say you love me - Jennifer Holiday
Jermaine - Jermaine Jackson [[his first LP) [[be good to have a box set containing all his Motown output in the way that Marvin Gaye's records have been released)

Jackie Jackson's solo debut is digitally available now, but only as a download, as is Let the Music Play. And I'm with you on Josephine Superstar!

If no one's mentioned them, I nominate Diahann Carroll's and Leslie Uggams' Motown releases.

I vaguely recall reading that Luther bought the masters to those albums and didn't want them released on cd.

Several companies have tried to release this pair of albums. Luther blocked any plans to reissue them, and left strict instructions to his estate that they should remain unreleased in the event of his passing.
I am not sure who is in charge of his estate these days, but unless they relent it remains unlikely we shall see them gain an official release.

Yes very familiar with the story about Luther buying back the masters from Cotillion / Atlantic.

In the 80's, before The Internet created a relatively accessible global marketplace, these albums were extremely difficult to track down in the UK. Now of course generally always available on Ebay or Discogs.

The recent Bowie's releases of the 1974 US Tour [[Cracked Actor & I'm Only Dancing) make interesting listening; as you can really hear Luther's backing vocals...

Did Luther buy the masters back before he became a solo success? I'm surprised Warner made that mistake.

Incidentally, Discogs shows that Shannon's "Let the Music Play" album has been released on CD multiple times. The most easily found version is probably the Unidisc [[Canada) release.

He bought back the masters sometime in the 80's from what i recall.. Believe it or not but he did not think his vocals were strong enough on that pair of albums. He did grow vocally. I will concede that, but he was no slouch back in the 70's.
Personally i don't think these albums are as strong as his better work for Epic, but there were a few gems on each album for sure.

Interesting. Do you know who was behind Ceilidh Productions?

[[https://www.discogs.com/artist/2726775)As for Mary Wilson's "Red Hot," Universal don't need a reissue label to put the album on streaming. They put Tata Vega's final two Motown albums up on download/streaming back in 2014. Vega did have the success of "Twenty Feet From Stardom" to give the project a push, of course.

No i don't. Just had a look at it.
As regards Red Hot Universal seemingly have no interest in releasing it digitally or otherwise. If they show no interest in releasing Supremes albums then Mary has not got a hope in hell, but other more worthy albums [[in my opinion) are at various stages along the conveyor belt. Look out for official announcements in the run up to Christmas.

Ceilidh Productions was founded by David Krevat. The story of the coming together of Luther Vandross and David Krevat is on the Krevatenergyinnovations.com website.

CEILIDH TRIBUTE
In the early 1970s, Lee’s Uncle, [[Lee is the founder of Krevat Energy Innovations) David Krevat, was in a bar considering what to do with his life. He had hoped to become a partner of a famous framer in NYC, since he ran the business and framed many masterpieces, some still hanging in the Museum of Modern Art.

As he contemplated life, an incredible singer was belting out one soul masterpiece after another. My uncle approached him, became his agent, incorporated as Ceilidh Productions, and was able to get Luther Vandross his first record deal.

In 2018, Lee and Kathy asked their daughters for a name for the new venture. They came up with KaLee, which was soon dismissed. But the next day, Lee passed a ship while walking along the harbor, “KayLee H.” Hegarty is Kathy’s maiden name.

Lee sent it to Kathy, who reconsidered the name, and remembered his uncle’s company. He checked with his parents, who sent him a picture of his uncle’s customer engraved guitar, and Ceilidh was briefly reborn.

Just before launching the Ceilidh website, Lee was convinced, by pretty much everyone, to use a name more easily pronounced and spelled – his own last name – Krevat.

I agree with the Bustin' Loose soundtrack [[I'm in the UK, so no idea what is or isn't released in anywhere other than Europe). The other Roberta LP I've not seen available is simply called 'Roberta Flack' - it's probably from about 1977.

Thanks smallworld about the Shannon CD [[Unidisc). I'll try to find it. I know that there is a CD available called 'Let the music play' but it isn't the full LP, and contains tracks from the follow up LP - but it's not the Unidisc one.

Sansradio - I'm pleased I'm not the only one who wants the Phyllicia Allen LP available.

I may be very much in the minority, but I actually prefer a physical CD and not a download.

One other LP I forgot to mention I want [[it has been available in Russia) is:
Arabian Nights by the Ritchie Family. The track "I'm on fire" takes me back to one day walking through Carnaby Street and hearing this blaring out from one of the 'boutiques' - I thought it was an amazing track, and had to find it, and subsequently buy it. I know Arabian Nights is available as a download - but for me, I want a [[legitimate) CD.

Thanks guys...I will be adding these to my list. I have recently added some more since my original post. Kind of sad all these albums will most likely never get a cd release or at very least a digital release. I was happy and very surprised however to see the recent digital only Grass Roots albums made available with the exception of their last 2 70's albums.
