Skooldem - Five Star had a profound effect on me in my teens,Im serious man....Denise Pearson has to be one of the underrated singers of the 80s - I have so many wonderful memories of this group when I left England in '86 they were the hottest UK group, polished soul/funk/pop...its not on You Tube but their performance of "Find The Time" on Top Of The Pops was pure precision....I love this group. The backlash in the media over their success is a study of racism in UK music Industry..they never got the respect they deserved...

TOTALLY. i'm in complete agreement. Luxury Of Life and Silk & Steel are two classic 80's albums. i love what they were doing a decade later too, say on their Heart & Soul album in 1994. their sound had matured and her voice was even better! i was really, really surprised when i checked it out, it had been a long time since their heyday in England.

Those two albums were huge sellers in the 80s,Their third, "Between The Lines",was released in the shadow of MJs "Bad" and that got all the hype and exposure - but "Between The Lines" is a polished set of power pop & RnB - one reason for Five Star not making it in America was because their father and manager,Buster, turned down the opening spot on Lionel Ritchies tour,He claimed they would headline in America or not at all..a silly move by a man who created the biggest group in the UK of 86 and 87...
