Happy Birthday to Roy Ayers, a pioneer of his own brand of soul music. He started his career more than 60 years ago. His catalog is long and distinguished. And he's still going -- I just saw him in Brooklyn in December 2019. Celebrating his 80th revolution around the Sun.

Roy took his cues from jazz vibraphonists like Lionel Hampton and Bobby Hutchinson. He
also traveled in that blend of soul and jazz that worked so well with Bobby Humphrey and
The Blackbyrds. He collaborated with a variety of other artists amongst them both Nigeria's
Afrobeat king Fela Kuti and Motown funk disciple Rick James. I wish somebody would write his bio....
