Need help from L.A. PBS TV watcher who knows 60s Jazz[[Stu Bass-you still around?)

Is there any SDF member here, located in L.A. who regularly watches KLCS LAUSD PBS TV network? I'm stuck in L.A. until I can get a Covid-19 antibody injection, or proven vaccine injection or pill. Meantime, I heard a great 1960s progressive Jazz tune played in the background while the evening programme schedule is being shown on screen. That instrumental is always played when the day's programme schedule is shown on the screen, several times each day.

It's a great song, that sounds like a mid '60s famous Blue Note piano combo. I'd like to find out the name of the song and artist. I may already own it on vinyl, but can't remember what it is.
I'm not with my records. If I DON'T have it, I'd like to get it off of You-Tube, or as an MP3 or MP4 from someone who has it.

Who else is located in L.A.?

I take it, then, that you never watch KLCS. Like all the PBS stations, it has some excellent programming. Unfortunately, I can't tell you when they post their evening programming schedule [[which is when they play that tune). I think they do it at the 50 minute mark each late afternoon and evening hour: 4:50, 5:50, 6:50, 7:50. 8:50, 9:50 PM. It's got to be a 1960s piano combo, probably on Blue Note Records, or Pacific Jazz, or World Pacific, - maybe Prestige or possibly Riverside. It is likely one of the well-known pianists. But, I just can't place it. The odds are I have the record, but just forgot it. Maybe you can grab a look at KLCS just before the top of an hour. If it's not at 50 minutes after. It will be at 55 after.

If it's OP or Basie, I'll likely recognize it right away...or of course Brubeck most anyone would recognize with his unusual time sigs...Not much time for PBS, but whenever I notice one of TJ's music shows I tune in for a segment or two...

It's not any of them. Not anyone that famous. Maybe it's McCoy Tyner.

Thanks, but I don't have any apps on my US cell phone. I only use it to prove who I am when I forget my passwords. I actually use my Dutch phone to make calls and talk to people. But I don't have any apps on that one. It's a flip phone. I am a creature of the 19th Century! It's a miracle that I am able to use e-mail and the very basic uses of a desktop or laptop computer. KLCS has still not answered my e-mail. I don't have a recording device that can record the sound of the TV.

I did some googling and here is a link for KCLS livestream. Hope it is the correct channel. I will check during this evening or sometime this week for the track and if I have any success I will post here.

Brother Robb...Since this is apparently very important to you, I'd suggest going to the App Store on your phone and download the "Sound Hound" App...It will take less than 1 minute to download the app and then when the song comes on, you simply point your phone at the TV and you'll get the name of the song...

Yes! That's it! So, it's a modern cut, eh? I thought it might be a 1960s Blue Note record. And I wondered why I didn't recognise it, and didn't remember having it. Do they give the year it was recorded? Sometimes these instrumentals are made specifically for the TV station and/or programme. I wonder if this one was? Given the song title [["Smooth And Cool"), and the name of the combo [[The Cool Cocktail Piano Trio), I'm guessing this was made by an existing combo or 3 individual instrumentalists they hired, based on the first one's recommendation, and recorded this a few years ago. Actually, the piece taken as a whole, isn't as good as the small part [[piano refrain) that's played when the programming schedule is displayed. It's a little disappointing. But it's still nice to hear something new that's old-sounding.

These videos seem to have been made for educational purposes [[teaching how to play the instruments), because no information about the producers, or individual musicians, or record label appears anywhere, and KLCS is owned and run by Los Angeles Unified School District. So, the musicians might be music instrument teachers/high school band leaders, and/or music department heads. I know that's possible, because at my high school in South Chicago, Bowen High, back in 1959-60, the head of our music department was a long-time professional, and had a lot of connections in Chicago's music industry, and got some of our groups auditions with local record labels. Same was true for record label owner/producer and radio DJ, Richard Pegue, who was writing songs and producing records for his Norvells group, both while he was a student, and later, was producing records on other artists while working in the music department at rival, Hirsch High, on The South Side.

They record all sorts of music for businesses, TV stations and networks, radio stations, advertising companies, production studios, karaoke, etc...They are apparently located in North Hollywood, so I suspect they use very good L.A. musicians for their tracks, and probably rely on a lot of computer music too...

It sounds so, and makes sense, as North Hollywood is the hub of L.A.'s recording industry, where the better recording studios are.
