I was listening to the Originals' in my car yesterday [["The Bells" and "Baby, I'm For Real") and I so loved the production by Marvin Gaye.

So, naturally, I started to think about some more of my favorite productions by artists who also produced for other artists while at Motown. Stevie Wonder came to mind with "It's a Shame" by the Spinners.

What are some of yours?

I intentionally left off Smokey because he did so many productions for others that it would take a while for me to pick my favorites.

I know you asked for Motown examples Gary, but since you didn't put the thread in the Motown section , that makes it fair game :p, so I'll fudge a little and meet you half-way:

Don't know why this came to me of all things:o , but i do think it's an excellent example of someone putting their personal stamp on a project and making it work for someone else [[in this case someone you'd least expect) :

[[Rick James and Eddie Murphy of course)

Of intra-Motown production collabs, for my money, Stevie takes the cake with this joint:

I, for some reason, keep forgetting to post in the correct forum lately. So you are right; it's fair game.

My picks are:
Stevie Wonder for Syreeta, Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta and his uncredited work on Minnie Ripperton's Perfect Angel.
And Smokey Robinson for The Temptations Sing Smokey

Almost forgot these:

Stevie's "It's a Shame" for the Spinners was my first thought [[and choice). I also liked his "We'll Have It Made" for the Spinners. I really liked Marvin's "Baby,
I'm For Real" and "The Bells" for the Originals.

Smokey, of course, is the greatest Motown artist to produce other Motown artists, but he was also a writer/producer. As were Ashford & Simpson and Johnny Bristol. I love all their work.

Ditto w/Rickie James and FAD. Remember that oh so weak attempt at his production magic w/Maxwell & Alicia Keys cover? Don't know who was at the boards, but it stinks! On its face, the match-up should have worked...

Didn't Luther also do a whole album w/Ree Ree? I'm aware of Jump to It.

Off the top of my head:

Intra Motown, definitely Marvin's work with the Originals. Stevie's work on Syreeta's second album is amazing IMO. I don't care for Syreeta's voice, but I adore that album.

In general, Kashif>Whitney Houston "You Give Good Love". Mostly anything Babyface produced between the late 80s and mid 90s. Practically Full Force's entire production catalog.
