If Diana had recorded "Happy-Love Theme From Lady Sings The Blues" for the movie do you think she would have had a hit with it rather than releasing "Good Morning Heartache" which was only a mild hit....I think it would have been better to have Diana singing this as the credits roll.

It’s a pretty melody, but the lyric is hardly Smokey at his best. I don’t think anyone could hit with it.

You are right about the lyrics MM...perhaps if it had been better written then im sure it would have been another smash for Diana.

Diana's live rendition of "Happy" is really good! I like the song very much, wish she'd do it again, but she doesn't " want to do sad songs anymore" so I don't know, would she consider this a sad song?

No I think Motown got it right with Good Morning Heartache.

I would love to hear the studio version of Happy if there is one. I like the live version very much

I would, too. Good Morning, Heartache was the best choice for a single from the soundtrack, but I think a good studio version of Happy would have been successful. Perhaps a double A-side single while the movie was #1.
