Weird? This performance won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 for Finland, beating 24 other countries. Now that proves just how weird audiences are as well as performers!

Hi Mike!
Although I'm not a Eurovision Song Contest fan - I never was - I cheer for the victory. I'm not a hard rock fan either, far from it, but that shooked up the whole contest. Now unfortunately we've gone back to the same old... [[I won't print the word here). It was amusing to follow the reaction in some countries such as France and Russia. It was just a refreshing and amusing short moment in the history of otherwise dull and "glamorous" contest.
Best regards

Heikki, let me guess.......you're from Finland. Am I correct? You have to support you own, of course, and I applaud your loyalty to your artists from Finland. Question; did your sense of loyalty persuade you to adopt the costumes of Lordi whilst walking around Helsinki?
I have to say what fabulous work you do, I was reading The Manhattans epic write-up on your website; that website is truly at the very top of its game! It's masterful in its research and presentation. Best Regrds and Congratulations [[on the website, not Lordi LOL). Mike

David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing a duet of "White Christmas" in 1977. It was weird to me at the time, but now I think it is a classic clip.

It won???!!! That's the most disgusting display I think i've ever seen. As bizarre and "dark side" as the Arthur Brown clip is... at least the man has a voice and impressive range. How the hell did the judges choose something like THAT? Certainly a far cry from Clodagh Rodger's "Jack In the Box", now, isn't it?

Hi Mike!
Yes, I'm from Finland, a very soulful country! Unfortunately hard rock in our country wins over soul music by 200:1 so far :-). Thank you for your comments. I see that the Manhattans thread hasn't any feedback so far, but I hope it's because nobody hasn't any time to read it so far.
To see how good Finland is, please visit http://www.newsweek.com/feature/2010/the-world-s-best-countries.html.
To "Jillfoster" - all the jurys all over Europe voted the song to number one. It was a democratic vote, and the song won overwhelmingly - all over the Europe! I don't say anything about the song, but I think that victory was refreshing.
Best regards

The Bugaloos. It was weird watching it when I was a kid, but we kids didn't have many choices in that time slot Saturday mornings. Very creative but weird. I didn't quite know what to think of it. What interested me the most was when they played phonograph discs, and I was a huge fan of record playing.

I think someone was on an acid trip when they wrote that. I love this song, though!

That Lordi performance was the WINNER? I'd hate to live through the losers. I'd rather sit through 2 hours of "How Much is That Doggy In The Window" by Patti Page, and I HATE that kind of music.

Hi Robb!
I don't like the song either, but it was different. It stood out from the decades-long grey mass of music in that contest.
Now we're back to boredom again. Even the half-naked lady singers don't turn me on anymore :-).

The Banana Splits were a bit more entertaining than Bugaloos. The Bananas were from Hannah-Barbera instead.

Here's a good one: Frank Zappa discovery Wild Man Fischer coming out of hiding to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live...

I would say that the Legendary Stardust Cowboy's performance on Laugh-In would also have to be up there!
Marv--"White Christmas"? Are you sure you don't mean "Little Drummer Boy"? Or did they sing "White Christmas" as well?
Roger--Even though it was a US TV series, The Bugaloos were British kids...one of 'em was Jack Good, who had a minor career here in the States as a teen idol.
Best,
Mark

The producers of the BBC's Top of the Pops, thought the late great Jackie Wilson that Dexy's were singing about, was a scottish dart player Jocky Wilson, hence the picture in the background.

You know you're living in a strange era when the Banana Splits sound better than 99 percent of the groups out there today. I actually liked that song.

Mark, it was "the Little Drummer Boy". I couldn't remember the song, it was just weird I thought at the time to see them singing together.

Any music show of today [[such as 'Later....with Jools Holland') which has Martha Reeves caterwauling and shrieking 'Heatwave' [[or any other song) like a tambourine banging, hideously frocked Banshee!
Shocking! Simply shocking!
