Assuming we have some country music fans on here, the news has broken here locally that Harold Reid, the booming bass voice of the award-winning Statler Brothers, died Friday after a long battle with kidney failure. To us locals, they were just "folks" that you would see at the grocery store so we never really thought of them as the international superstars they became.

Harold's death leaves two surviving members from the original line-up...his brother Don and Phil Balsley, who himself lost both his wife and son in recent years.

The Statler Brothers had been around so long, just about everyone of a certain age should have heard them. Rest in peace Harold thank you for sharing your talents with this old world.

Remember them on the variety shows in the '70s. And yes, that was my first memory when I read the news: "booming bass."
