I was searching on the web this morning for hi-res CD artwork for a non-Motown collection and I ran across this little peculiarity! A quick web search didn't find anything about this particular CD--which makes me think it's likely a bootleg originating somewhere outside of the US. I can't even confirm whether or not there are any Supremes tracks on this set, but...clearly the company wanted to trade on the image of The Supremes to drive sales. I see this drawing as a combination of Diana [[M), Mary [[L) and Flo [[R) and the pose by Diana, Mary and Cindy used on the cover of "25th Anniversary." The first thing to come to my mind about this pic: Why, it's mamma-rific! EEK!

It's from a UK label.

I wonder how "Funny" sounds on the CD. I've never been able to find a good sounding version of the original recording.

Ahhhhhh... thanks for doing the research, Smallworld! And just as I'd suspected, not a Supremes track to be found in spite of a likeness on the booklet cover!

As for Maxine Brown's "Funny," I don't even have the track in my collection. Wonder why it's so rare on CD?

Hey, danman, I own it on this Tomato collection, which is well worth seeking out despite their notoriously iffy sound quality:

The Tomato set uses a re-recording of "Funny." The instrumental ending is so staid on that version.

The CD version lists a running time of 2:20, so it's probably the Nomar original. But Soul Jam Records is a grey market / public domain label so they don't have access to masters, only what's been previously released on vinyl, CD etc.

I never knew Maxine re-recorded the song. I had read that Scepter purchased the masters to her earlier recordings. Was it re-recorded for her Scepter greatest hits album?
