While so many of us focus [[rightfully) on the pathetic cover art for this lp, thought it might be interesting to see what people would do with the song lineup

The lp repeats 2 songs from the previous GH album, skips the duets [[probably for royalty reasons) and includes all of the under-performing singles from the DRATS era

So what 12 songs would YOU include?

Would you pull in some favorite album tracks, like they did on the earlier GH?

Go ahead and include the duets?

Include an unreleased track or two?

Add the duets anyway....
Include The Young Folks.
Add a few more gems such as Going Down For the Third Time, Ill Set You Free, Chains Of Love, and the rare Beginning Of The End of Love
and Why Must We Fall In Love

I certainly would have wanted both Greatest Hits collections to have had a couple of different songs. On reviewing the double album GH a few years ago I realized that all the songs were from US singles, A-sides & select B-sides, rather than just A-sides and favorite album tracks. So I would compile a GH V3 in the same manner but omitting repeats.

Even though there were too many releases in '69 and '70 for The Supremes and Diana Ross, I thought a GH comp for them with The Temptations might have been worthwhile.

John - how could you omit Why Must We Fall in Love from the Duet GH! lolol that's a great song and should have been released in the US rather than Weight IMO

sup_fan - I like that song but only included songs that were either the A-side or B-side of a domestic USA single, similar to how the first GH was compiled. So that would exclude "Why..." [[although I see it was a UK single). For Side 2 of the Duet GH I chose to use songs from their TV soundtracks, particularly since TCB was #1 on the Billboard album charts.

Now if I was doing a comp of my favorites it probably would not include many of their singles, A-side or B-side!

^good point. i read that and forgot that's how you approached it.

i do think a duet GH would have actually sold pretty well. probably better than Together or Broadway.

I would have simply replaced the two repeated singles, LIHANYG and The Happening with the two hit Temptation duets: IGMYLM and ITSN [[I'm sure legal could have worked out an agreement)
Interesting sidenote: Cindy Birdsong's voice does not appear at all on this collection :[[

I have to say, the fidelity was great on the LP....I liked having all the later singles on one LP....I would have added He's My Sunny Boy, Will This Be the Day as replacements for the 2 repeats....and since it only had 11 songs, I Guess I'll Always Love You as a 12th

I'd have done:

Reflections
How long has that evening train
love child
Discover me
stormy
You're gonna hear from me

someday we'll be together
i'm living in shame
in and out of love
I'll set you free
the music that makes me dance
Impossible Dream [[live from farewell)

How Long Has That Evening Train should have been the follow up to Love Child. Greatly underappreciated song.

Here's my mix. As I've said before, I'd have shelved the "Cream of the Crop" album so "Someday We'll Be Together" would be the highlight of this album, just like "The Happening" was for the original greatest hits set.

Side A:
1. Reflections
2. In And Out Of Love
3. Forever Came Today
4. I'm Gonna Make You Love Me
5. Some Things You Never Get Used To
6. Someday We'll Be Together
Side B:
7. Love Child
8. I'll Try Something New
9. I'm Livin' In Shame
10. The Composer
11. No Matter What Sign You Are
12. I Hear A Symphony [[from T.C.B.)

I'd also scrap Cream of the Crop but put a couple of new songs in with the recent hits. Something like this:

Someday we'll be together
Can't You See Its Me
In and Out of Love
No Matter What Sign You Are
Beginning of the End
I'm Living In Shame
Going Down For the Third Time
Forever Came Today
The Composer
You Gave Me Love
Somethings You Never Get Used To
Love Child
Reflections

Some gems on Love Child and Reflections...
Would be cool if they did it like the Japan quad version

Didn't "The Young Folks" chart as a B side?
